Gluten or wheat free Restaurants

I am tired of cooking and would like to go out to breakfast tomorrow. Are there any breakfast places (by boat) that serve gluten or wheat free toast?

GF in Wolfeboro

I believe the following carry GF bread in Wolfeboro and are within walking distance of town docks. I always call ahead to make certain they are definitely GF !! Regardless of where you go, please let us know about your GF experience. Enjoy.....

Downtown Grille Cafe
33 S Main St
569-4504

Wolfborough Diner
5 N Main St
569-2997

Wolfeboro Inn (they may have their own dock-not sure though)
90 North Main Street
569-3016‎

Strawberry Patch Restaurant
50 N Main St
569-5523
I recently saw a GF pancake sign out front here but haven't checked them out yet.

Downtown Grille in Wolfboro definitely has GF alternatives.

Wolfeboro Inn

Yes...we do have our own dock and Wolfe's Tavern has numerous gluten-free options for all meal periods. Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you!

Gluten Free in Gilford/Laconia

Kitchen Cravings in Gilford, near the airport, is open for breakfast and lunch and has a lot of gluten free items.

For dinners (and possibly some lunches- need to check if they are open then)- Tavern 27 in Laconia on Parade Road is unusual and great- lots of GF items on the menu.

There is an awesome creperie in Wolfeboro, Seven Suns that offers GF:

I tried the Mount Major ham, brie and asparagus crepe and it was amazing.

Patrick's in Gilford has a small GF menu, Lakeside Deli and Grille in Meredith offers GF bread (or at least they did last summer), Guiseppe's in Meredith offers GF pizza and pasta (GF pizza crust is one of the best I've tried).

Kara's cafe in Meredith: http://www.karascafe.com/

Woodland Tavern:

Everyone has already suggested my top two favorites - Kitchen Cravings and Tavern27.

A word to the wise, having GF bread doesn't by itself make a restaurant GF friendly. For people like my wife that have Ciliac disease not only do the ingredients need to be GF, but also source of cross contamination need to be eliminated... even a crumb will send my wife into a upset stomach and bout of vomiting.

Bottom line is a resturant can tell you they have GF alternative, but you need to also make sure they understand, the difference between someone that simply wants to eat gluten free, and someone that HAS TO EAT GLUTEN FREE

Now need to practice what I preach

Thank you to all who have mentioned our restaurant as a gluten-free friendly establishment. Our passion for accommodating dietary needs is consequent of my mother's needs. She has multiple sclerosis and has been able to control exacerbations with diet.

The past seven years have provided me with an abundance of applause from others who have to control their diet for one reason or another. On a number of occasions I've actually witnessed tears of joy from those who were expressing their gratitude, but it wasn't until recently that I really understood why.

I'm about halfway through my third week of treatment for lyme disease. Glutens, sugar, alcohol, and redmeat all eliminated from my diet per Dr.'s orders. Yes I can eat well at home (my own restaurant) however I now have a better understanding of how challenging it is to dine out.

I won't take the time to list the restaurants that have disappointed me with their options, but I certainly want to take a moment to make mention of the awesome chicken tenders at Patrick's pub in Guilford.

Hopefully my treatment won't last much longer but until it's over i'm likely to sneak out a few more times to enjoy those tenders. Thank you Patrick's

Did he/she say why to eliminate these? Just curious.

I am not sure that the GF-by-choice folks have helped or hindered the cause of serious food allergies, but there seems to be a lot more of the "alert your server" notations, which is a Good Thing.

As a person with a weirder food allergy that would cheerfully spend $$$ for an allergy-free meal, I would urge restaurant owners to teach waitstaff to ask a chef or supervisor if the offending/lethal ingredient is there, rather than just say"oh no, we don't use that" when they don't even know what the ingredient is.

I don't know if it's a human nature thing or a sign of the times, but most people have a really hard time saying "I don't know, but I'll find out." And the consequences for that ego inflating can be serious for the allergic person.

Jmo,
Mac

In layman terms I was told that the glutens sugars and red meat create an environment within my red blood cells that the parasite thrives in. Removing them from my diet will lead to a weaker parasite and help the medicine be more effective.

I'll bet your food allergy is not as weird as you think. Being at the helm of a restaurant that caters to allergenic needs has opened my eyes to how many there are.

And that is the key! Countless of millions of folks have food restrictions. I am diabetic. I pretty much stop going out and eat home. If I need to be on the road I pack a smoothie or bring staples for me to snack. I save a lot of money in the process, but really miss out on exploring new dishes.

Talked to a number of restaurant owners who found out they were celiac or diabetic later in life, like me stop eating out. They admit sales are down because of allergies, but the general public crave for tasty food! (salt, sugar, gluten, fat etc.) They don't want to lose any more sales!

We went to the 101 Grille in the Ridge shopping center in Rochester (next to Walmart), and as we walked in, the hostess asked us a few questions, among which was whether my wife or I had any food allergies or dietary concerns. Pretty nice and the first time we had ever been asked, at least to our memory.
By the way, nice food and service. Back to the subject at hand.

Breaks my heart to read this. Had you visited us any time has far back has May of 2010 you would have been asked sooner.

Just did a little research. The website went up in late 2013 and they have quite a few similarities. Imitation is a wonderful form of flattery. Did their waitstaff have personalized business cards? If so that would be third generation as I took the idea from Emerald's in New Orleans.

upthesaukee 03-14-2017 09:52 AM

No heartbreak here. We have no food issues, other than not knowing when to push the plate away. 😉

Seriously, that is a good thing that you do, and I am sure your patrons appreciate it.

No business card from the waitress. Again, that would be a first for us as well. Nice touch.

Wish you continued success with all that you are doing with your restaurant.

This could be an interesting issue around here as our service style is a series of small plates, one after another. Fortunately our hospitality specialists are on a mission to clear them as soon as they are empty.
