Penny Pitou
 

With the recent name changing of the 1960 Olympic venue Squaw Valley. I learned about Penny Pitou A local resident of Gilford and business owner in Laconia. She won 2 silver medals in that Olympics 1 DH and 1 GS. Sounds like she is an extraordinary individual.

If I remember correctly she owned Kimball Castle for a while too.

She and Milo Pike were our neighbors when when we lived in Gilford.

She was the first US woman to medal in Olympic Alpine skiing.

You must be referring to first to medal in Downhill.

I occasionally see Penny hiking around the Belknap County range and at Gunstock both fall and winter. She is also an excellent tennis player!
