I was exiting the channel this evening from Paugus bay, headed to Meredith and I got blinded by this obnoxious blue light. I think it was a sailboat leaving the weirs public docks and headed towards Eagle Island.

Is this guy begging for a marine patrol encounter?

Yes.

You're only supposed to show nav lights when underway. They've lightened up a little since the law first passed but members reported getting stopped when cabins lights were visible through port-holes.

Me too...honestly. I think it’s a silly rule. There is certainly an advantage to being seen absolutely rather than another boat missing your little red/green lights in a scenario like approaching The Wiers at full dark...the shore lights blind you!
In total darkness the little red/green lights and white are adequate.
