Dark Mode
Morning,
Is there a Dark Mode for this forum? I.E. Dark Background with white letters? It is my current theme on Windows 11 and I find it easier on my eyes. Thanks, Rick |
Sorry, the forum software does not have that feature.

You can adjust colors through your browser menu
The glaring white background of Windows and websites is a real problem for older people and people with vision problems, like cataracts. There are ways to change the appearance of almost everything on your platform, especially colors, fonts, and sizes of fonts. I have my Windows 10 laptop set up for a light to medium gray background, black text, and forest green menu and task bars.
I selected those colors for ease on the eyes across my entire platform and apps using a combination of: (1) Personalization options in Firebox: Tools---Settings---Fonts and colors. I think this is the main thing you need because your browser, not the Winnipesaukee Forum, controls what you see on the screen. This will change the background color of all websites to your chosen color. You can easily toggle back and forth between your chosen color and the original color of a website using this Firefox add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...websitecolors/. The shortcut icon can be placed on your menu bar for quick access. (2) Winaero Tweaker: https://winaero.com/ I've used this for years. It allows you to change a lot of annoying things, like tiny menu fonts, and for me it has been bug free. (3) Personalization menu in Windows 10. Here you can opt for a high-contrast theme and choose your background color. Perhaps this is easier in Windows 11? I would love to see a screenshot of your Windows 11 dark theme. I can't guarantee that those will work in Windows 11 and it can take quite a bit of trial and error to get everything to your liking. |

Thanks for tips
I have both Windows 10 and 11 as well as UBUNTU. 10 and 11 are pretty much the same in personalization. The trick on Firefox looks pretty neat. Do you think one would develop an extension to capture firefox personalization?
UBUNTU has a lot more custom control than Windows. I like the black background with yellow fonts for my ancient eyes. |

A number of studies have been done to determine the best text and background colors to relieve computer eye strain. Yellow on black is one possibility. I find that disturbing myself and much prefer black text on a gray background. Try the Firefox color settings option. If you have trouble I'd be glad to help. I forgot one other important tool: f.lux, which adjusts the amount of blue light coming from your screen. https://justgetflux.com/ This makes a really big difference in eye comfort. |
f.lux
Thanks for the tip! My android as well as UBUNTU has that as an option and I love it!
