Pardon my Vent

Every small business in NH is struggling with staffing this year,so what do our legislators do to help out? Make more difficult labor laws.
Got this yesterday from the State of NH;

Effective 7/14/19, the Youth Employment Law pertaining to Night Work limits the hours that youth 16 or 17 years old may work in any shift during a work week. Specifically, no youth who works more than 2 nights in a week past 8:00PM or before 6:00AM shall be permitted to work more than 8 hours in any shift during that same week.

This means that any kid working a 4 to 9 shift cannot work any other 8 hour shifts for the week.
As it is,youth labor laws are extensive and tricky to follow since they change when school is in session and vary with 14/16 and 16/17 year old kids
Sorry for the rant

What is missing in the wording of what was passed? The two statements quoted above seem to be at odds. The first seems to allow working multiple days after 8pm (or before 6am), as long as no shift in the week goes over 8 hours. Do kids need to be pushed to 10-12 hours/shift anyway?

No problem venting

This is a big deal with all businesses that employee youth. It's far more productive to deal with green cards and importing labor than to hire local youth.
Seems to me the youth today is so coddled, they will never make it in the real world, in fact once they graduate they are in a state of shock!
No wonder they get into drugs and socialism!

I must be missing something. It reads to me that if a kid works more than 2 shift before 6 or after 8 he can’t work more than 8 hrs a day. In the example of a 4 to 9 shift (5hrs) it seems to say he can work as many as he wants as the shift isn’t more than 8 hrs. What am I missing?

Hi Sam,

I'm with RBG, I do not know what was actually passed, but your post reads as if the only restriction is that no teen who works nights can work more than 8 hours in a single shift. He could still work five 8 hour shifts. It's just that he could not work any 9 hour shifts.

You might want to double check all this.

Seems to me there is a "not" missing in the OP. ?
