Speaking of eagles and bodies of water, the photo below shows one year of activity of several eagles in the middle east. They really cover a lot of distance but I thought it was interesting that they completely avoided flying over the water. One of the comments in this article says that it is because there are no rising warm air currents over the water but it still seems odd that they would choose to fly such long distances to avoid a relatively short flight over the water.

From observation ..... eagles do not float .... so it would sink if it stopped stroking the water with its wings. They seem to have no problem with breaking through very thin or slushy ice and falling into the icy cold water.

A mallard duck or a Canada goose will float with ease, while a crow or an eagle are not natural floaters, and will sink.

For people, anyone know what's the body mass index number where one goes from being a floater to a sinker? With a bmi of 20, you will be a sinker ... with a bmi of 30, you will be a floater ..... so, maybe it's bmi-25 that is borderline?

Waterfowl constantly preen which stimulates oil glands that coat their feathers.

Water will roll off a duck’s back...thus making them boyant.

I’ll bet $2 that FLL is a “sinker”
