Original Mt. Washington-Paddle Wheel

When I first saw this on side scan sonar last year I really didn't know what I was looking at as I have never seen anything like it before. I did conclude it was steel/iron due to the hot white areas of the frame showing major sonar reflectivity.

When I dove it recently and saw what it was it of course all made sense then.

Stuck in the mud on edge like a big donut, and sheared off horizontally, this too shows evidence of a bad fire and I believe shows the effects of explosives. Everything was ripped apart not cut with a saw, at least as far as what I looked closely at.

Wow, how cool! Are you the first to find this?

This is so exciting. You can SEE the paddle wheel in the fire wreckage pics. I knew it had to be out there somewhere. Bravo Gentlemen. I know some people are going to see this as a piece of junk, but this is real lakes region history!

There appears to be great visibility and plenty of light. What is the depth?

Yes it is a wonderful find. I was amazed when I got close to it and saw it come out of the fog so to speak at which point I recognized it for what it was because I didn't recognize it on sonar.

Depth is about 65 feet and it sits quite a distance offshore.

As to whether or not this has been found before I really don't know. In 2011 I emailed a Forum member named about a paddle wheel he said he found but never got a reply

As to whether or not I am the first that sort of thing doesn't interest me. But it is quite a find nonetheless and I continue to look for more of the Mount.
