WMUR update, Sunday, May 30, 5:20-pm

On a dirt road in west Meredith-Chemung rural area, Chemung Rd and Higgins Rd close to Sanbornton, an age-67 Sanbornton woman was struck while jogging on Sunday, May 30 at about 8:45-am.

She was transported to hospital by helicopter for serious injury. She is said to be recovering at home.

The hit & run suspect car is said to be a 2016-2018 Toyota Rav-4 with damage to left front end, based on evidence at the scene.

There is nothing lower than a hit & run driver, and they are not always someone who you would imagine as the type of person to do a hit & run. ..... :eek2:

Anyone with info about a 2016-2018 Toyota Rav-4 with new damage to left front area should contact the Meredith Police at 279-4561.

Driver was an elderly man who claims he thought he hit an animal. As FLL said...not always the person you'd expect.

Hard to understand how a person hits an animal and does not look back, but I guess the court will decide...

It will start with the County District Attorney whether charges will be filed according to the article.

I too wonder how someone thinks they hit an animal and doesn't look back. I would look in my rearview mirror and then in my passenger side mirror.

He must have thought he hit a BIG animal and not some red squirrel.

I'd have stooped to see if the animal needed help. Or if a BIG animal had been killed, you have the right to take it...deer, bear...Exotic BBQ's for the rest of the summah!

When I was 16, I hit a deer on Rt. 93 at about 80 mph. Lots of damage to the car and it killed the deer. It almost came through the windshield. Two guys in a rusty, old pick-up stopped and took the carcass.

It was broad dayiight when he ran her down, he should have seen her.

Certainly a "reasonable person" would have seen her, and the "reasonable person" standard is what the DA uses when judging a suspect's actions.

Than again, perhaps the driver had mental or vision issues which led to this?

Here's a somewhat similar case from South Dakota, Sept 12, 2020 .... www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Ravnsborg ..... where the 46-year old attorney general of So. Dakota was removed from office on June 21, 2022 for a fatal hit & run, killing 55-year old Joe Boever who was walking along the road.

Atty General Ravnsborg "was driving home alone from a Republican Party dinner on Saturday night when his car hit something, possibly a deer, he told authorities."

It is unusual to see such a smirky, dopey looking photo like his in Wikipedia?

So, you never know, who will remain at the scene of a car-person collision, and who will leave the location probably being scared and thinking they can get away with it. An adult beverage or two can effect one's actions, at the time, as well?

And, holy smokes, it says he is/was a lieutenant colonel in the Army.

I don't recall seeing the person named or being charged.

Maybe the D.A. decided not to bring any charge due to mitigating circumstance such as driver was driving a manual transmission car, and only knows how to drive automatic! While trying to shift from 3rd to 4th, driver was looking at the shift knob pattern, in attempt to get it into 4th gear, and not watching where the road was going when s-m-a-s-h ..... & .... w-a-c-k-o ...... car struck something ...... was probably just another deer, out there.

No charge here ....... :eek2: ....... get it in gear, grandpa, or get a horse!
