NH State Liquor essential?
New Hampshire has 77-state liquor stores spread across the state which is easily the largest interface between the State of NH and the NH-people. They sell spirits and wine, no beer, lottery tickets, and no tobacco items. For beer you go to a grocery that also sells food items.
Ok, so why is the NH State Liquor store considered an essential business that's open now during the corona virus scare while restaurants and bars are closed? For state liquor store employees who sell liquor and wine to the public it seems like they must be in close proximity to many different customers and putting their own health at risk. http://www.twitter.com/ziyatong/stat...475334/photo/1 ..... people spots ...... retail spacing solution for keeping customers six feet apart from Denmark .... a very good idea! |

California ...
Deems liquor stores and marijuana dispensaries to be essential services.
The work-at-home folks can sit at the kitchen table with a shot and a joint. Us retired people sit in a more comfortable chair. |
All the liquor stores and cannabis outlets should close.
Out west the casinos are closed. Without gambling, booze or weed a lot of addicted / habituated folks would have to go cold turkey and find something else to help fill up the time. Is that such a bad thing? |
Wishing NH liquor stores would sell cigars. One stop shopping

.... what's open, what's closed?
Seven different states have state liquor stores: Alabama, Idaho, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Virginia.
Did some fast research and here's what's open and closed: Alabama- 78 stores closed Idaho-closed New Hampshire-77 stores open North Carolina-open Pennsylvania-closed Utah-short hours with social distancing enforced Virginia-short hours Those people spots from post #1 could be a good way to practice the six foot, social distancing at the check-out line. Using them sends a message and helps to build community good faith because they treat everyone the same. Creating a little trust and good faith at the check-out is a good thing ...... sort of a 'musical chairs' check-out conga line where everyone advances one people spot, together, at the same time ....... all together, now! Could not find any info on the liquor store clerks wearing surgical masks? |
My brother-in-law owns a liquor store in CT. There they have been declared essential businesses by the state. As he always says, “When things are bad people drink. When things are good people drink.” No way NH is closing down this revenue stream.

Although I like having them open, it is an invitation for out of staters to come into NH and spread this. Close them down.

Not really a solution

Those with a gambling addiction will find a way to gamble, legally or not. Those with an alcohol addiction will find it, wine st the grocery store, e.t.c, and if they can't get it legally, they can break into houses and steal it. Drug addiction, well they can buy weed and anot anything else they want in almost any community. Close the gathering spots? Yes. Cure the addictions? I don't think so. Again, JMHO Dave |
Damed out-of-staters! All they do is support the NH economy & supply the much needed tax revenue that keeps the state running. I see no reason to let them cross the border. Cowhampshire is far to pure to have coronavirus within its borders. It’s all someone else’s fault.
Yup, real sound thought process! Sent from my iPhone using Winnipesaukee Forum mobile app |

..... you read it here first ..... after seeing this thread, Gov Sununu has directed all retail food stores and all 77 state liquor stores to immediately start using people spots, spaced six feet apart, as a retail method for maintaining a six foot space between customers at the check-out line. .... :rolleye1: People spots; an excellent plan from Denmark. |

Be vigilant be sanitary maintenance distance but closing business is disastrous. In a war few are sacrificed for the many but but are now sacrificing the many for the few. Again my opinion if you don’t like it tough crap. BTW big thanks to the left for killing the stimulus package by trying to stuff there agenda of abortion funding, energy credits and an emissions package down our throats without regard for all the people you purposely and needlessly put out of work. Killing our economy and people’s lives for political gain. Very nice! Sent from my iPhone using Winnipesaukee Forum mobile app |

Is vaping related to corona virus?
www.time.com/5807214/vaping-caronavirus/ .... March 23, 2020 Could be bad for business at the three vape stores in Laconia! ............ Oops, posted this one in the wrong thread, thought it was going into the 'Covid-19 effects on summer businesses' ..... my bad! |

That sort of fuzzy thinking makes no sense. I don't know how you people do it on the east coast, but out here you don't need a medical marijuana card to buy and consume cannabis: recreational use of cannabis is legal for all 21 or older. It used to be the only way you could legally blaze was to have the MMJ card but that restriction went the way of the dodo bird. As for gambling, ALL casinos are closed, including tribal casinos. They may be sovereign nations but they can get sick and die like the rest of us. |

Like Republicans have never used a crisis as a negotiation tool. Grow up.
You understand that if the Senate bill got to the House as it was it was going to be debated & modified or the House was going to send a totally different bill back to the Senate. By Pelosi getting involved now it actually will shorten approval time and get the bill to the President faster. Sent from my iPhone using Winnipesaukee Forum mobile app |
Fact not Opinion
1) Democrats and Republicans both use their own influence to get what they want incorporated into bills all the time. If both sides did not agree to the "pork" that is added by both sides, we would literally never get anything done/passed in this country. Lets leave politics out of this, we are trying to solve a pandemic, we are all human.
2) To put the economy in front of someone living or dying is reckless and irresponsible at best. If we eliminate the virus, the economy will come back. We have ALL lost money in the last month irregardless of age/creed/etc. However if the government wants to shut everything down, they do need to help those out who cannot earn a living. 3) The virus lasts 14 days (as far as we know right now). Shut EVERYTHING down for 15 days and the virus dies. The health care system and supply chain can catch up and the economy naturally follows. People trust that there are no or very few cases out there, so they will buy and shop and get back to daily life, thus jumpstarting the economy. 4) Whether or not you believe in social distancing, it works. It may be a corny term, but you stay 6-ft away from me, and I do the same to you and we are good. Unfortunately people cannot do this, or are not conscious enough to do this, which is part of the problem. We could all go back to work and live our daily lives if everyone could do this properly, but they cant. I am amazed by people at gas stations and grocery stores who are still not wearing gloves or sanitizing the grocery cart. Are you nuts? Thats how this thing spreads. A gas pump handle is a petri dish for bacteria. 5) I could go on and on, but back to work. Anyone who doesn't believe any of this should consult a health care worker on the front lines and ask them how they feel, or ask someone with a MD, PHD, MS after their name. They know what they are talking about. |

Please explain what funding the Kennedy Center, Bailing out the Post Office, changing minimum wage when no one is working, Abortion funding, airplane emissions, voting changes have anything to do with or crisis. Purposely trying add specific policies they could not get through a Republican majority Senate the past 3 years at the expense of the public when taxpayers really need them. Yes the corporate bailout on both side will definately be negotiated and resolved but these other items are ridiculous. I love the tone of your post by the way. |
Have you ever dealt with a person in serious withdrawal from anything?
They can become a major problem very quickly even if it isn't life threatening. You can expect belligerence as well as physical symptoms of nausea and incontinence. This could result in emergency services being involved and tieing up a hospital bed until the subject quiets down. There are enough politicians trying to promote social agendas on the back of this crisis as it is. If I wanted to take "The White Pledge" I would not want it forced on me. |

It's all about the $$$$
The State will never close the stores. Too much money involved. I believe what they should do, if they must, is keep open a few larger stores in certain areas and close some of the smaller stores, allow these employees to collect unemployment and pay those that wish to work a bonus or some form of incentive pay to remain working. If you must have booze, you'll just have to take a little drive to get it. My wife works in one of the stores and after seeing vehicle after vehicle coming in from NY, Mass, NJ, CT, she decided to take a voluntary leave of absence. NY is bailing out and the Task Force is very concerned that there may be many infected people that will spread the virus. Your health is not worth the risk. We'll just try to get by a while with the stimulus check that hopefully will come next month. Stay safe everyone.

..... curbside pickup
Finding a method to keep the spirits flowing and keep NH State Liquor employees safe from corona virus, as well:
http://www.nhpr.org/post/sununu-expl...tores#stream/0 "Yes, I'm looking for a bottle of white wine, something with a nutty-fruity flavor, and something that's on sale, too?" .... for better liquor sales and bigger tips working curbside service, state liquor employees should probably consider dressing like the beer server babes at the bike week tent ..... don't you think. ..... ;) |
NHSLC is a significant income generator for NH,that being said it is also designated by Federal and State government as essential. This is because it serves the health and well-being of the public, like grocery stores, pharmacy, gas stations, hardware stores etc. people are starting to get the point about social distancing and staying 6 ft apart
|
As of March 18, here's what's happening way down south at the 78 Alabama state liquor stores, the sister stores to New Hampshire's 77 state liquor stores:
http://www.al.com/news/2020/03/coron...main-open.html And didn't that former Boston Globe writer, Mike Barnacle, say that New Hampshire is just like Alabama, except with snow! Reading the newly created in-store customer rules down at the bottom of the Alabama page, it looks like Alabama has found a way to keep their spirits flowing ....... way down south in Alabama! Alabama has 78 state liquor stores, and New Hampshire has 77 state liquor stores ...... so's you see the close similarity for these two here states .... Hampshuh and 'Bama. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHdXQAQHjd8 ...... Alabama-Song Of The South |
Mike Barnacle...Alabama
"And didn't that former Boston Globe writer, Mike Barnacle, say that New Hampshire is just like Alabama, except with snow!"
I wonder from where he plagiarized that statement? |
Maybe the state could put up big tents in some of the parking lots and turn them into drive thru stores. Michigan or Ohio had this year’s ago (maybe they still do). You popped the trunk and drove thru the building, called out what you wanted, and they put it in. At the end of the line you paid the cashier who closed the trunk. With all the cashless methods of payment it would minimize contact. I know, it would never happen in NH.

Just practicing safe distancing and good hygiene will suffice to serve us well in NH, in my opinion. |
The liquor stores must be essential. The employees just got a 10% raise retroactive to March 13th.
Remember, alcohol kills germs!........................ https://www.laconiadailysun.com/news...9aef43b76.html |
Is 10% enough? How many adult beverage, close proximity contacts at the cash register counter happens during an eight hour shift?
Looks like the Wolfeboro state liquor store is closed ..... a major boo-hoo for Wolfeboro! Can you believe it ...... the Town of Wolfeboro's - NH State Liquor Store has done been forced to close cause no one wants to show up and work the store, there, in Wolfeboro! Holy adult beverages ..... that is an unbelievable situation for all the adult beverage seekers in Wolfeboro. Surely, there must be some liquor store worthy people from neighboring Alton who will come to rescue Wolfeboro for $14/hr. Believe that Hannaford and Stop & Shop are installing plexiglass petitions to segregate their check-out clerks from their customers ..... maybe that's what state liquor should do ..... put the state prison to work building plexiglass petitions to protect the liquor store cashiers. Someone locked up at the state prison built a solid oak, six station computer table with petitions and slide-out drawers for the Plymouth Public Library that is very well designed and built. |
It not really a rise. It’s a bump in pay until this event is over then it drops back. Please correct me if I read it wrong

I will salute Fox as well for their more recent discipline. You may have noticed that they fired Trish Regan for asserting COVID-19 was a hoax. Sadly, that was after she persuaded some people. Both of these cases illustrate why it's import to cite real news sources rather than "the internet". Readers can remember these cases years later as they think about potential bias in current reporting. |
