Shibley's on the Pier
My wife and I went to Shibley's on the Pier for lunch today. We had the best Rick Wraps, we ever had. We were Lucky to get the only parking space open, the handicap space, right in front of the door and the only table not occupied, in the dining room.
|
I was there last Wednesday for lunch and had the All American wrap with waffle fries and as always it was a great lunch!
BTW for those who knew Meredith who waited tables there before leaving after her college graduation a few years ago - I was told she is expecting a baby soon. |
Always excellent!
We have lunch there often and eat at the bar. Service and the food are always great. It is a pleasure to support a local business like this one.

Went over by boat for lunch yesterday. It was a beautiful day on the lake and we were astounded by how few boats we encountered from W inter Harbor into Alton Bay. The Alton docks were almost empty. We had a great lunch out on the back deck.

Try . . .

The Lady Slipper. If you're not driving, of course.

Just had Dinner
My wife and I just had dinner at the bar. We split an order of Calamari and split a vegetarian pizza....both were wonderful and we brought a third of the pizza home. Service was outstanding and the food delicious. Great value as well.

Great Food!
We went there this past weekend with friends and sat outside on the deck. Service, food and view were all fantastic!
Shibleys is always a great stop by boat!! Dan |
My wife and I hit Shibley's last weekend for the first time. The food was fantastic and the view and atmosphere were great.
Our waiter unfortunately was "below average". I only point to the waiter because I watched the other waitresses working their butts off and visit their tables 5 times for each time we got visited. I only saw our waiter working 2-3 other tables (certainly not overloaded) and never really checked in on us. We had to flag him down for more water and for my wife's refill on her drink. I think we were there for an hour and a half. I think the "one bad egg" is something every restaurant faces and not reason to consider the restaurant to have a reputation of poor service. We will certainly be back. Worth the boat ride all the way down to Alton Bay. |
Not very clean
Stopped in Sunday for a little lunch.
The service was fine , very attentive waitress . Food was acceptable , The dock was full so we ate inside. The place looks like it hasent been cleaned in years ! Walls are a mess , Windows dirty with bugs trapped between the windows and screens, table dirty and the carpet in this place is unbelievable . It hasent been cleaned in years . Drop anything on it and you don't want it back . |

Could NOT disagree more !

While I have no personal "dog in the hunt", I care deeply about all of our Alton restaurants and know many of the owners who all work very hard at running their businesses. IMHO, it is unfortunate when a mischaracterization of what I know to be true is presented that may very well impact others from visiting that establishment. As to Billy Bob, I might suggest that in the future, you take a moment, search out the owner/manager of the property and let them know personally about your concerns....a much more constructive approach, I believe. |
I don 't have an opinion re Shibley's, I did notice that Billy Bob appears to have some general issues with NH. See post #30 here:

Shibleys
I could not disagree more with the negative comments above. My wife and I regularly visit and dine at Shibleys. Its a fantastic restaurant with hard working attentive staff. The food is great ( I can't begin to list all our favorites). The owners appear to continually put money back into the business - just look at the new outside deck. We look forward to when they reopen in January every year after some well deserved time off. One of the best on water restaurants on the lake!!!
|
We love Shibleys too
I wanted to echo the positive comments above about Shibleys. We go there often and have never been disappointed - the food and service are always great and when combined with the ability to sit outside on the deck overlooking the water, make for a great experience. We always take company there by boat and it has gotten to the point that our out-of-state guests now routinely ask to go to Shibleys when they visit. The only challenge you have when you go there is figuring out which of the great items on their menu to choose.
|
JFYI - the homemade bacon / blue cheese wasabi potato chips are awesome, as is the Reuben egg roll. We never get to order a main course.....
|
It's extremely rare to go to a restaurant many times and never be disappointed, But that's exactly what Shibley's has been for us. Never has even 1 person in our party had a complaint. I've been with some picky jerks too.

Cant remember the last time I dropped food on the floor of a public restaurant and wanted it back. Wow.

Shibleys
I also can't say enough good things about Shibleys, its food and employees. Always top notch from my perspective. I always stop there when I'm in Alton Bay.

After 12 years up here....
we went to Shibleys for the first time. Wow...the weather was perfect..no one on the roads during our long trek from Long Island. Even Wolfeboro was empty, relatively speaking.
Shibleys was great. Place was clean,no bugs on the screens, the sconces were sparkling and the little curtains on the top of the windows weren't even dusty ( and everyone agrees this is the mark of a fine restaurant.) The carpet was a little drab but I agree with Siksukr on this one. Rarely eat off the floor even within the 5 second rule. Even in my own kitchen...although there was the time with the pork belly. But I digress. There was only one toilet each in the Men's and Ladies rooms. And a WOMAN came out of the MENS room before me. I am well trained so I put the seat down when finished, just in case. But I digress, again. Anyway, the lunch choices were vast, the waiter was pleasant and the beer was cold. What more could one ask? The prices were not low but the value in quality and quantity was high. All in all, a great experience and we will return if I can ever get through Wolfeboro in the summer. Oh,and the food was delicious. |
Back at post #12 we had not had recent experience there. Stopped by for lunch at about 1pm today. Pretty busy for a Monday, sat at the bar for a 603 Winni ale and lunch. Looked like the deck was pretty busy from the waitstaff traffic.
Ordered lunch and chatted with Dave Shibly about hiking. Attentive barkeep service and lunch was very good. Amy Shibley came by later and we talked about hiking and biking the Belknaps. Now Dave & Amy work 10 hours a day to manage this special place and they take 2 hours a day every day to hike, bike or run in the Belmont Mt range. They are hard working caring locals that have built a successful business. BTW when we left at about 2pm (on a Monday) all of the deck tables were all occupied. Now that is a vote of confidence. |
Great Lunch
Stopped for lunch with wife yesterday, All was great as usual. hard to find a better stop at very fair prices on the water. Been there many times over the years & hope for many more:liplick::liplick::liplick:

Both the Dive and Shibley's at the Pier were featured on the WMUR Chronicle last evening. Dave and Amy Shibley are really nice people and turn out some really good meals.

We went to Shibley's last evening for our anniversary dinner. (She has put up with me for 42 years)! The table for two by the window had windows on two sides looking both across the bay and up the bay. Perfect.
I had the Atlantic Salmon, the Sassy version, and it was excellent. My wife had the Seafood Risotto and kept saying how delicious it was. Oh and a serving of Creme Brulee. And three times today she mentioned again how much she enjoyed it.:) http://www.shibleysatthepier.com/dinner.htm |
Many fond memories of this place! Once upon a time we were seated on the deck for dinner when (unbeknown to us) a water skiing show unfolded before our eyes. Also fun to be there in the winter when planes are landing on the bay.
