Spring fishing

So the answer to this question my seem obvious but with virtually no ice fishing happening on Winnipesaukee what will the impact be on the Spring rainbow trout. Will we have a bumper crop or could we have an overpopulation issue. Just curious....

Good question. My guess is that there will be more rainbows caught early in the spring. I myself don't catch many bows til June. I think they stock them with the salmon after the derby. Also, rainbows like the water in the mid 50's. I think the biggest up-tick will be with the Lake Trout. Any way you look at it is a win/win for spring fishing............Tight Lines

I think things will be quite different early on in the season.

I agree with what Bob said about the bows, I also don't think you will find all the salmon right on top like normal right after ice out. I think they will be spread through a larger water column. Sure there will still be some on top but not like a normal ice out year. The water will be warmer than normal come April 1st, probably more like a typical May 1st. Taking water temps and checking your log books for water temp history will be key.

It will interesting to see if bait migration is affected, I can't see how it wouldn't be. I would assume areas you normally fish in May you will or should be fishing in April.

Either way it will be fun finding out!! I'm looking forward to it!!
