Cheez-its & geese?
 

Cheez-its: I'm talk'n about the small square, orange, baked cracker that comes in a red and orange box, and costs about three dollars for the regular size and $4.50 for the large family size.

Geese: I'm talk'n about the black and white Canada geese, also known as a 'honker.'

Cheez-its and Canada geese; did you know that Canada geese totally love Cheez-its in the ORIGINAL style or flavor which is both cheesy and salty.

Cheez-its will float, and can easily be tossed a distance of 30' or further, by throwing it just like a Frisbee. Floating, throwing, and taste all add up to make it a happening treat for the geese!

Some Canada geese trivia: geese are migratory, monogamous, territorial, weigh about ten lbs, live for 20-years, and can return to the same location every spring. Their geese babies are called goslings, and are yellow colored.

Unlike a loon or a mallard duck, the Canada geese does not seem to be much of an underwater diver, or underwater swimmer.

Canada geese are not Canadian/Canadien, they are Canada geese, and they do not like to drink beer/biere, but they very much do eat Cheez-its, original style, which will float!

“It’s like deja vu all over again”!

..... a sure sign of spring ..... the returning Canada geese flying back to Winnipesaukee from South Carolina, or somewhere, regardless that it still feels and looks like winter.

The cold 39-degree open water doesn't seem to be a problem for the geese, rather a welcome spot away from the surface ice.

In my formative years we preferred Cheese Nips.

Have they been tried on the geese?

Hillcountry, you are correct. Back in June 2013, FLL also made a similar posting with the only difference being that post was shorter, and the cost of Cheez-its has gone up by 14%, from $3.95 to $4.50. Aside from that "useful" information, there is not much to heed in the post.

Feeding waterfowl bread, crackers, etc. is not recommended and can actually cause issues with their health. The big reason is by feeding the waterfowl, you are also inviting them to come ashore, and foul the water, beaches, and yards of those who have lakeside property, or those parks along our shorelines. The clean up after their onshore visits is daunting at best. Tiptoeing through the goose droppings is far from pleasurable.

Perhaps FLL has run out of original posts and has to resort to recycling older posts [emoji42].

I’m with you. Nabisco Cheese Nips are better than Sunshine Cheez-It’s. [emoji4]. Actually Nabisco Cheese Tid-Bits were the best.

Cheez-its way over Cheese Nips; and while we're at it, Kellogg's Raisin Bran over Post Raisin Bran; Diet Coke over Diet Pepsi; Diet Bud over Diet Coors; Oreos over Hydrox, (do they still make Hydrox?); I'm sure I could go on and on.....:D:D

Well FLL, some seem to like your recycled post others do not. To those taking this too seriously lighten up....

While geese present issues because of fecal mater, so do ducks and loons... Ducks which are just a present on our lakes as the geese. And not forget about the fecal mater of fish, yes there is that too.... Its all just very aweful to think about.

The good news is water is always flowing in and out of the lake, so it all kind of takes care of itself.

More damaging to the echo systems, are what man brings to the table... that is not derived from mother natures kitchen.... but I will currently just not go there.... because I am starting to sound like others who are choosing to get up on their soapbox with this thread.... Instead I am going to join FLL and others .....

While cheesy Nips and Cheez-its are great and no doubt the geese love them.. I personally believe they cost to much these days to feed the geese... I am a traditionalist I guess, and believe in the use of bread... Which you can get a whole loaf of from Walmart of all places for a couple of bucks... or better yet, if you can find a bakery distributor, or wholesale outlet, sometimes you can get a loaf for less the a single dollar, if not for free, if it is out of date.

I really don't think the geese or ducks mind, the day old stuff.... Rather I think they wonder why the humans give it away so freely.

Feed ducks and geese is like a right of passage, it has been done for years... a little bit here and there is not a bad thing. The real problem was the people that where dumping bags of bird food along the waters edge to attacked them for the viewing pleasure...

Any how kiddies deserve the pleasure of feeding mother nature once in a while as long as it isn't done in excess, there is no harm... look at all the good scraps bears, raccoons and others get a hold of all the time...

Original Cheez-its in the 12.4oz box costs $2.58 at Walmarts.

1. Bud is a superior product
2. Coors doesn't have Clydesdales
3. Bud pays huge taxes to Merrimack and to NH
4. Bud provides hundreds of NH jobs
5. Bud opened a new Biergarten last year. Stop in and try it.
6. And while we're talking about goose poop, Bud is a major user of the local wastewater treatment facility, keeping sewer fees low for the rest of us.

Oh. And Thin Mints over Oreos. And Fungicles are better than Popsicles.

Just realized Descant is in Merrimack, too. I was a bit concerned the InBev buyout would be a bad thing, but so far they've done everything right.

Agreed on feeding wildlife--ok if minimal.

I'm tell'n ya's ....dem goose is so smart....by the time they make their second migration back to Winni ..... they can draw the difference between an Isosceles and a right angled triangle.....and apply dat Pythagorean theorem backwards and forwards....

Just one Cheez-it .....just one taste .... is all it takes .....and you got a smiling Canada goose buddy for the rest of the month or longer? Some wild goose have an aluminum band with a big, long number imprinted, attached to one leg?

Throwabilty was probably not an intended feature with Cheez-its, and the ability to toss it fairly accurately a distance of 30' or more goes a long way to make it a happening feeding experience ..... and they float!

It's got to be that cheesy and salty taste, 'floatability', and 'throwability' is what it's all about!

FLL, I hope you buy boxes and boxes and boxes of Cheez-its and keep them on that Wal-Mart side of the lake!!!!!!

It appears on Google that Fudgicle is a product of Creamsicle. Fudgsicle is a brand name from the Popsicle company.

In my earlier years I was the controller and minority shareholder of a large ice cream distribution company in New York. Yes, it's the damn cheese its and damn geese and damn fll for feeding them!!

Just one large Canada goose that has an aluminum band on its left leg with an imprinted number starting with 3 is the only goose I used to feed Cheez-its by tossing them out, frisbee style. Apparently, it has not been present since the summer of 2016 when an eagle ate its' mates' nesting eggs, or something.

The two gooses rebuilt the nest every spring, March to May, in the same exact spot in 2012-13-14-15-16 until an eagle attacked the nest, drove off the mother nesting goose, and ate all her eggs. These two gooses have not been back since 2016?

Gooses apparently don't rexognize Cheez-its as food at first, but will probably get to like the taste after testing it, floating in the water....... like, what is this orange thing that just landed here?

Feed away, fll. Keep them there. I don't want them!!
