How’s the fishing?

No reports of late...has the salmon fishing died off already? My boat goes in on Friday, hopefully!

I only had time to get out fishing a little bit on Saturday evening. Some activity on the fish finder, I caught nothing. Don't take that as a sign the fishing is no good... I spent only about 2 hours out there! Was really nice once the wind died down towards sunset. Water is about 45 degrees fish marked were between 5-15 feet down.

I have seen several get caught right out in front of my place so they are biting.

Thank you! Can’t wait to get out there!

Fishing has been good. Mostly, no, actually in my case, ALL 3 year old salmon being caught but of good size and very healthy! Not sure this is a good sign but it is nice to see some very healthy 3 year old fish!

Its been a little different for me this year targeting the salmon. I think because ice out occurred right at or just after the smelt run was done. Go deeper than you normally would fish this time of year and you will do OK.

Good luck!

Dan

Was so looking forward to this morning when we would have our maiden valet for trolling for some of Winni’s salmon but my truck’s water pump had other ideas...was at Dunkins to load up on coffee and muffins when I noticed steam coming out from the engine compartment. Sure enough coolant was pouring out.
Carefully limped home and called for a tow. Thankfully, I have an extended warranty on the f150. We’ll try again next week. :(

Got the truck fixed and did our 1st valet out of the WOW marina. Fished from 7am til 2pm today and no bites. Tried flies, hardware and varied lead core depths from 1 to 4 colors and no hits. Will be at it again at 6am tomorrow...
Good to be back on Winni!

Was out at just after 6am this morning... breezy and cool with a nice chop.
Managed one laker and a couple of dink smallies. Laker hit a rainbow colered spoon and had a hit on a Nine-three streamer. Laker was in 25-30 FOW and I had 4 colors out on the lead core.

How’s the fishing?

I am sure I will catch heck for this, but... what is with all of the fishermen dragging their kids orange life preservers along side their boats? Went for a nice ride from Wolfeboro to the weirs and back and saw hundreds of fishermen. Great afternoon for a ride!

Planer boards...I have no idea what they do except separate your lines?
Saw lots of those out there...

This weekend was the Winni Derby Salmon/Lake Trout event so there were probably more fisherman than you are used to seeing which might explain why you had never noticed this before.

Fisherman are trolling (moving slowly with bait behind them) for salmon and lake trout and many use any of a number of brand name planer boards such as this: https://www.bigjon.com/product/otter-boat to allow them to attach leadcore (weighted line) to spring loaded clips on the line these planer boards are attached to. These clips slide down the line toward the boards and allow fisherman to spread on 2 or more leadcore lines with bait on each side of the boat without tangling with each other.

Many will have these boards 30-50 feet off the sides of their boats so be careful if passing closely.

Fishing was very good this past weekend. Friday and Sunday were awesome, Saturday was slow.

When the kids talk too much, it seems to be a pretty good way to quiet them for a while.
