I think my last bill was $2.94 per gallon but will double check.

Lakepilot 11-18-2014 05:54 PM

Last bill was $2.749 for propane.

Edited on 11/19 to change the price we paid from 2.449 to 2.749. This was with Irving.

Lakegeezer 11-18-2014 07:09 PM

Prices all over the map

My Our Town buying club's price, via Eastern, is $2.33 at 1000 yearly gallons. A neighbor got a price under $1.99 from Rymes.

BroadHopper 11-18-2014 08:24 PM

Sunapee propane is 2.79

ITD 11-18-2014 09:35 PM

So oil right now is $2.99 a gallon, the best price I see here for propane is $2.33.

So for oil, 138,500 btus/gallon which works out to $25.40 per million btus from a heater with 85% efficiency.

For propane, 91,333 btus/gallon, which works out to $26.30 per million btus from a heater with 97% efficiency.

I'm sticking with oil....

Deep River

The Dead River buying group inside Long Bay/South Down in Laconia is $1.939 per gallon.

Eastern actually delivered to my home in error after the account was taken over by Dead River and they honored the Dead River price.

It kills me... this state is 84% woods, and people can't even get a cord for $300.
Wait til an EMP hits.
People hate;
Fracking, clean coal, pipeline,Califonia water to farms; but, saving frogs, birds, ants than humans.
Wouldn't you want to be a PREPPER TOO!

I get my wood in May or June each year, from the same logger, and don't pay any where near $300 or more. Don't know where you are getting your quotes. My wood is green; cut and split at 16 in lengths; oak, maple, some birch; and of course delivered. I have dealt with the same guy for about 15 years and price per cord hasn't gone up by more than about $30 per cord.

Within the past couple months the price of hardwood for firewood has gone up significantly. This is for both green and seasoned cut/split wood. Check craigslist to see what I mean.

upthesaukee 11-19-2014 06:48 PM

One advantage of dealing with one guy is he takes care of "his" customers. When he runs out, he is out. We call early, and for 15 years, he always has wood for us. He does not live and die by firewood. He is a logger and does his work. Cord wood is a side of his regular work.

firewood

HellraZor is right. I haven't burned for years, but my father in law has, for 30 years in Alton Bay, and uses the same guy. He got 4 cords, and wanted 2 more (green for $300 ea.) to season for next year. He's been waiting since August:(

Correct. Eastern called me stating that it would commit to a price of $1.75 per gallon after Dead River called them about the transfer. I said it was too little, too late, especially after you've been hosing me for the past six years!

That is amazing, I too have been with Eastern for six years and I must say their customer service is excellent but the actual invoiced price before they agreed to honor the Dead River price was $2.639 so now that you are leaving they tried to drop the price $0.89, Incredible. Where was the discounted price for six years of loyalty?

Their disctrict rep told me that when the Dead River contract in up they are going to be very aggresive trying to regain the South Down/Long Bay business they had lost.

When we built our home, Eastern promised us the their most competitive residential rate prior to installing the tank. I have relatives who purchase from Eastern, and found out they were paying less per gallon. The first couple of years, I was after them to honor their promise, but grew tired of having to chase them down all the time. By the time Dead River came along with the South Down/Long Bay opportunity, I was happy to go with another supplier.

IDT, we use about 2000+ gallons of propane. We figure we are going to save $2000 to $2500! Not bad.

That's just a little more than I would use, it's almost worth it to change over, it will be interesting to see what oil prices do this winter.

BroadHopper 11-20-2014 09:25 AM

2000 gallons! WOW!

You must have a Mcmansion!

We have a 2000 sg ft 5+ Star energy rating home. Gas range, gas dryer, gas tankless water heater and boiler combination, gas fireplace and gas BBQ pit and at the most in the past 4 years we burn 1400 gallons @ yr. Of course the Mitsubishi split keep us comfortable above 20 degrees.

We built with propane as at the time was the most energy efficient way to heat the home. With a supposedly 90 year supply and the forecast that propane/natural gas prices will remain low, plus the energy credits earned, made it far more economical than an oil furnace. Plus figure in the annual burner cleaning and occasional fire pit replacement that comes with oil heat.

I wouldn't call it a McMansion, but it's a nice home, nearly 4000 square feet. We love it in SD/Long Bay!

SD/Long Bay!

Long Bay

I love it in Long Bay also. I joined the buying group also and saved a lot of money. I'm not sure if other companies will match the price because of the volume that LB/SD is giving them, but it's definitely worth a phone call. Good luck!
