Kids Hike Suggestions

Hi!
Please suggest good places to take my 5-year-old hiking. We're on the Moultonborough side and have done Castle in the Clouds, so I'm willing to travel a bit.

Thanks!

Abenaukee Fire Tower isn't bad. Its pretty short though. Can always do the walking path that starts at Wolfeboro train station. I've taken a four year from there to about a mile beyond Mass Landing.

Plenty of hiking trails in the area.

How about a hike around Stonedam? Kids love this hike.

Another great hike is over at Center Harbor on Squam lake. Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest

I can go on and on but these two are great for a 5 year old. Look for the troll house on the Chamberlain!

Got this information from the above site.

Stonedam Island Conservation Area, Lake Winnipesaukee, Meredith: The Stonedam Island Conservation Area encompasses 112 acres of the island, with 2.7 miles of undeveloped shoreline, acquired by LRCT in 1982 to protect one of the most significant undeveloped island parcels on the Lake. Stonedam is a perfect place for a peaceful walk on a network of trails leading to points of interest all over the island, including one of the highest points on the Lake with a view of Copple Crown in clear weather. Docking for power boats is available at a dock on the northeast shore of the island. The island can also be accessed by paddle craft. A network of trails, which are signed and blazed, extends from the dock to points of interest elsewhere on the island, one of the highest in the lake. The loop around the island is 1.5 miles long.

west rattlesnake

No, not the island, but the hill on the north side of squam in holderness. Took my 2 and 4 year olds up last year. IMHO, one of the best vistas in the lakes region.

I will second Rattlesnake. Could be a little tough at first but not bad overall. Another good one if you like waterfalls is Beede falls just down the road from Rattlesnake.

For a short hike with a great payoff, blue jobe mntn has best views of mnt washington. might be just over 1/2 hr drive though.

Science Center

For a great afternoon with the kids I would highly recommend the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center in Holderness.

A great walk. Tons of animals. Lectures on the critters. Scads of children's activities. And, if you wish, nature boat cruises on the lake.

Yep. Took my ex's four year old there too. That was really neat and he enjoyed it a LOT.
