Deep hole jigging
I was wondering if it’s too early in the season to start jigging the deep holes for lakers. I’ve only caught a few this year and no salmon...the lakers I did catch trolling with LC were in 25 FOW but that was a month ago. Thanks!

Have had good luck jigging in July for lakers. It not to early. Lakers love sitting on the bottom just gotta find them. First started with a charter captain who no longer is on the lake. Neighbor got 7.5 lb last year in July

Two questions...
Is having a fish finder an absolute must for this type of fishing or can you just try your luck in some deeper water (60 feet?) and...what typed of jigs work best for this? We've never tried it before but willing to give it a try.

You really need to have a fish finder to locate them. They are not always in the deepest of holes, sometimes on flats that are 40-50 ft deep.

I just finished a week of vacation on the Lake including some time every day vertical jigging with spoons for lakers. I had moderate, consistent success with fish in 45-55’ and a catch rate of maybe one fish every 1.5-2 hours. Largest was 23”. Plus a bonus 18” rainbow. haven’t been able to be on the Lake later in the season when the bite is better but it’s definitely not a waste of time now.
