RIP Bill,

You were a legend, a great guy and your business was a landmark in the area to all sportsmen.

You will be missed...

Bill Martel

Is indeed a legend in Lakes Region. An excellent fisherman and guide.
I grew up in the South end of Laconia. My dad will show me how to use an electric prod to drive worms out of the ground or compost pile. I would sell the worms to Martel for 25, 50 cents, sometimes a dollar!
On occasions he would invite me out fishing on Lake Winnisquam. I enjoyed fishing with him as he gives me pointers and tell stories. Brought home may pike pickerels, bass and trout. Winnisquam was loaded with fish until the Sewage project contaminated the lake and created huge algae blooms back in the 70's. There is a brook nearby where Bill and I would, in the middle of the night go smelting. He was good at it!

There were three great fishermen I know, Bill Martel, Merle Cotton and my Dad. May they share their stories in heaven!
