Big Banana CSA shares available

It's (officially anyway) Spring! Big Banana Community Supported Agriculture has weekly shares just like last year, but also something new. Now you can purchase full-season shares for just $250.

The Saturday pickup time has been extended to 8 am - Noon and the location is now at Patrice's Farm on Gunstock Hill Road.

See the website for details: www.BigBanana.org. :liplick:

Thanks.

We are going to buy shares when we move up there (hopefully before June) if there any left. I am so glad to CSA is going on in the area. Now I'll just have to learn how to freeze these fresh veggies for winter use.

Cate, even if the Seasonal Shares are not available in June, you can always buy Weekly ($18 per week + the $2 pickup fee) this year, then get the Seasonal Share next year. Plus you can order any of the other items for pickup on Saturday a.m. with your veggie basket -- or even without ordering a basket - the $2 fee per order [not per item] still applies. Check with us when you get up here: just use the Support/Contact page on our website.

And I'm sure you can get lots of advice and help on freezing or canning the veggies here on the forums or at the Saturday a.m. pickups. :liplick:

This sounds great! We're going to give the weekly shares a try this season to see if it works for us. :)

Thanks for the information...

I live in the Weirs and don't have much room or sun for planting much of anything. Now that I know this organization exists I'm going to try to get involved.. I work weekends, sometimes two jobs, so I will have to figure out the logistics for pickup.

Thanks again for the info.

We may be able to help you there wMw. When we get settled we could probably pick up your order and drop it off on our way back home.

(Still waiting for offer on NJ house to get things rolling, however.)

Great! The "Add to Cart" button for the weekly shares should appear in mid-May when the produce begins to become available.

Thanks, CateP

Thanks so much for the offer to shuttle veggies if I am working. Hope your NJ house sells soon and that you find a house that is a good fit in the Lakes region. Summer is coming and I will bet that you want to be done with unpacking by then.

I noticed sign at Picnic Rock Farms, formerly Longridge, as I drove by last week. I had no clue what it meant.

A few seasonal shares left

The seasonal shares have sold a little better than we expected, so there are only 3 left. Just a reminder that we have 2 kinds of shares. One is the 16-week seasonal share at $250 (plus the one-time $2 fee), beginning with the May 14 pickup. There is no weekly charge once you've got a seasonal share. The other type is the weekly share at $18 weekly plus a $2 fee for each order (not each item).

Just a clarification, too. Someone asked when the CSA ending date is. The 16 weeks would put us at into mid-September, but we're small and flexible. If you get a seasonal share, but you know you'll be on vacation away from the Lakes Region (why?!) for a week, just let us know by the weekend before and we'll just add that week at the end of the season.

We hope to run until mid-October as we did last year, but as you know, that depends a lot on Mother Nature's whims. So even if you get all your 16 weeks, you should be able to get a weekly basket (or bread basket or other products) for another few weeks if you want. Plus, several of our other products are available in the off-season too.

If you want to know what's likely to be in the CSA basket each week, be sure to sign up at the website BigBanana.org for our newsletter, which will be restarting in May.

Lastly, check our FAQ page for more details. :liplick:

There are videos on our site BigBanana.org explaining Community Supported Agriculture, or CSAs. Whether you decide to participate in our CSA or one of the others in the area (Picnic Rock may be more convenient for you if you're in Meredith, for example), the videos may be helpful.

Since different CSAs operate differently, I recommend you watch all 3 videos, each of which explains something different about different CSAs. There is one video at the bottom of the Home page, one at the top of the FAQ page, and one at the bottom of the FAQ page.

Great Idea

What a great idea to have weekly shares available.
I'm looking forward to grabbing a few weekly shares this summer!

Great! We look forward to seeing you.

Also, if anyone is considering the $250 Seasonal Share, we only have 2 left.

The Seasonal Shares are now sold out, but remember that you can order a weekly share beginning Tuesday, May 10. First pickup is Saturday, May 14.

Thereafter, you can place your order every Monday or Tuesday for pickup the following Saturday throughout the season. Pickups will be from 8 am to Noon at Patrice's Farm in Gilford.
