Me too! We went to Hart’s on our way in Friday night and there was a sign on the door advertising their buffet. Starts Nov 1. Unfortunately we won’t be back until spring.

I read your response with increasing excitement, only to have my hopes dashed upon the rocks. A buffet might be the only way I would try Hart's again but, alas, we shall be away until spring as of next weekend. Sad face!

Let’s see what kind of response Hart’s gets with their new buffet.
People may accept the change more readily now than before.
Adequate staffing has become a constant challenge.
I’m glad someone is trying something different.

What's new about it? They have had a buffet in the winter months for a while now.
I went last winter and it was very good but I just can't eat enough anymore to justify the cost, It was expensive.

Susie Cougar 10-16-2019 10:05 AM

Sorry, I didn’t realize that they’ve done it before.
I don’t have a big appetite, so I would not want to spend a lot of money for an all-you-can eat buffet.
I do enjoy having a selection of different food items.
Does it have to be like a college cafeteria where you can go back as often as you like?
Maybe charge a different price for one time ?

They have a lot to choose from but I think it was $35.00. I know I got sticker shock when I got the bill because I had a few beers also and it was $60.00 for just me.

The older I get I can't eat as much but love a buffet because I can get just what I want. One string bean and three meatballs? Done.

Obviously the trick to a buffet is for it to be busy so the food is fresh. Hart's kind of has an advantage because thanksgiving type food can sit for a long time with no real loss in quality like you would have with a stir fry, or fish or something similar. $35 though? Way too much. I think Bellagio in Las Vegas is less than that.

35.00 is a little expensive but they are very busy when they have the buffet so I guess some people think it is a good deal.

Wow! $35 is crazy expensive.
I have not been to Hart’s in years. When I am in the mood for turkey, which is the main reason to go to Hart’s, in my opinion, I prefer the small turkey plate at the Village Kitchen. Just the right amount and price. 😋

We went to O's Saturday night with another couple and we all had great Steaks and drinks. The bill with Tip was $240.00, $60.00 each. That $60.00 at Harts buffet was $60.00 for just me before the tip.
Needless to say I haven't been back, way too much money, IMO.

I completely understand and I would rather have steak than turkey any day of the week but their seems to be people that disagree as they are crowded. FYI my parents love the Hart's buffet. Too each his own :)

They did have all you could eat Prime Rib which was very good. In my younger days they would have lost money on me.

I don't think that Hart's will change their menu for 1 out of Stater. There ya go wanting to change things again for your own liking. It's easy, if you don't like the price or the food, don't go.

An AYCE buffet is a kiss of death in our family because our stop switches don’t activate in time....so we tend to overdo it...not happy to admit a lack of self control. 🤨

To me there is nothing more disgusting than a buffet in a public restaurant! I just cannot bring myself to eat food that has been plopped in warming platters, sitting for God knows how long, having people parade in front of it while being looked at, sneezed at and handled by who knows how many people with dry skin, dirty hands, and hairy arms!! Yuck!!:eek:

Ill take my food served on a clean plate direct from the kitchen oven or grill then served directly to me at my table with very limited handling in between!!...

Just because you can't see into the kitchen doesn't mean those things don't happen in there. :rolleye1:

I'm not sure how I got $35 but I do know my bill was $60. Maybe I had too many brews. I was drinking Craft beers that night but I think I only had 3. Anyway, I'd much rather go to the Bob House or T-Bones!

I know buffets aren't the most sanitary but your a fool if you think those things aren't going on in most kitchens also. It's just out of sight out of mind. If we all saw what went on we would probably all stay home.

So correct. My first real summer job was as a bus boy at a restaurant on the NH seacoast. The restaurant had a reputation for good food. After seeing what went on in the kitchen, I had a hard time for a while with dining out. One of my friends worked at a meat packing plant making hot dogs. The stories he told were pretty bad.

To be clear -- the Buffet, which is set up in the downstairs dining area is approx. $22.00/pp it comes with extensive soup & salad bar, Prime rib, and a selection of fish dish's, usually some ham dish's and of course turkey dish's along with numerous sides like potato's (various), stuffing's, vegetables et al along with desert selection --- it is laid out & done quite nicely. But typically only Friday nights through the winter months.

We actually look forward to it each Winter as a welcomed change to the same old/same old.

Your daring for going in there!!!! Haven't been in there since I was in high school cause we could eat as much as we wanted for $10!!

kauriel 10-17-2019 10:27 AM

We are counting down the weeks until Hart's Friday night buffet resumes! The buffet usually has salad bar, soup, rolls, turkey, prime rib (2nds only), potato, squash, veggies, some type of fish, some type of pasta/starch, and a dessert table. They often post on Friday afternoon the menu on their Facebook page because they usually change up the type of soup, rolls, sides and desserts. The essentials are always good but sometimes the variable items are amazing and sometimes we just aren't interested. We have at least once driven up and back just for dinner based on the menu they posted! It's a bit more expensive than most of their entrees but for a few dollars more getting soup, salad and dessert and all you can eat squash makes it worth the price. I think last year it was around $21 or $22 per person for the buffet and then add beverages and tip.

Biggd 10-17-2019 11:07 AM

Maybe they caught me eating more than 2 prime ribs and tacked on extra money. :D I could have sworn it was $35. I must have drank too much that night.:emb:
I was remodeling a bathroom last winter so by the time I went out to dinner I was totally exhausted.

Susie Cougar 10-17-2019 11:48 AM

Yes “water”. The community now know as Meredith Bay was originally Akwa Vista. The owners of Akwa Bar are the former owners of the community and they hire Harts to prepare the food at the bar/restaurant in Akwa Marina.

Akwa Vista was the original name chosen by the developer trying to appeal to second home buyers, mostly from Massachusetts.

Will naming it Akwa Vista help to sell it? How does Akwa Vista sound? It sounds like the water, or something ...... hell's bells ..... lets go with Akwa Vista ..... it will sell!

Renamed to Meredith Bay, which is actually located in Laconia, and is not in Meredith. So, how come it wasn't renamed Laconia Bay?

It sounds a lot like "Aqua Vue," a former small cabin colony near Owl's Nest / Wise Owl on rte. 11.

It's been a long time since there was an actual turkey farm there.

Should they change their name to reflect reality?

"Hart's Turkey Town" just doesn't cut it.

Hart’s buffet

I would be really surprised if Hart’s microwaves their turkey. If they have a large crowd they would not have enough microwaves to keep up.
I have not been there, so I cannot say for certain what they’re doing. If they are not carving the turkey on the buffet line, they would most likely put it in 2 inch pans with a little bit of water, cover them with foil to keep them moist and put them in an oven or a warmer until needed.

Years ago it was really famous and quite a landmark. Now it's a Barnes & Noble

I remember quite well Harts Turkey Farm on the Daniel Webster Highway.

Does anyone remember the old A & W Root Beer Stand a little further up the road? Used to get 5 cent Root Beers there......

The entire D.W. Highway in South Nashua has turned into a shopping center and a traffic nightmare.

If my memory serves me correctly the Route 3 highway By Pass opened in 1969 and the D.W. Highway transformation began.

I remember the turkey farm but not A&W, though my parents used to talk all the time about the drive-in one in Dracut. And agreed about DW Highway--I still miss Shakey's.

That being said, it's easy to see through rose-colored glasses. Though I'd be hard pressed to say things are "better" today, life in "my" area--northern MA to Moultonborough--is still pretty awesome.

My LAST time there I paid about $20 for a "special" beef sandwich. When I picked it up one finger was almost burned and the finger next to it felt a chill. Thats only possible from the microwaving of meat from the fridge.
