April fun?

I'm having some friends up this weekend. I realize we are sort of "between seasons" but we're looking for some fun outdoor (or indoor?) activities in the Gilford area. (Willing to travel anywhere around the lake) We are 6 women, middle aged, of varying athletic capabilities. :) In other words, no difficult hikes, etc. Thanks!!! We are all set for food; mostly looking for daytime entertainment or activities.

How about a nice walk up a hill?

The hike up Mount Major is pretty easy. Looks like a nice weekend too.

The Meredith Sculpture Walk through downtown and along the lake. Lots of places along the way for adult beverages :-)

Moultonborogh Country Store

Check out their website. This old general store is a great place to browse & they sell homemade jams. candles, kitchen gadgets, moccasins, penny candies, clothing, books, etc. They also have maple syrup, Vt cheese, old fashioned pickle barrels. Upstairs is a museum. It's on Rte. 25 & a few minutes from the Loon Center which is also interesting.

Yes my wife could spend half a day in there. Me? Not so much. But it's 6 gals with no guys so it would work fine.:D

American Cottage

Another place that's has some very nice stuff and well worth a visit is "American Cottage" on route 11 in Gilford. Top quality custom made furniture, lots of custom hand made items, antiques, Nepalese hand knotted rugs and all kinds of other neat things. It's a great place to visit!!

West Rattlesanke Mtn - Holderness

Nice weekend for a short hike with excellent views. Located in Holderness on Rt113. Bring a picnic lunch. Also a restaurant in Holderness going towards Meredith past variety store on side road. Go there Sunday's after going to Church Island. Just Google west rattlesnake hike NH and look at tripadvisor revues.

Great hike

If you head up to Holderness and Squam Lake, take Rt 113 heading to Sandwich. A couple miles up on the right you will find the trailhead for Rattlesnake Mt which overlooks Big Squam lake. The hike is about 20 minutes and very easy. You come out on a rocky bald face high above the lake. The view is breathtaking, you can see the whole lake with Winnie in the background. The view rivals Mt Major and is a whole lot easier!

Sorry Dave I missed your post! I'll chalk it up to great minds thinking alike!

As a middle age woman myself, I would say definitely a West Rattlesnake mountain hike is doable and well worth it! I hiked Mt. Major last Sept and was wondering if I called the airport how much I would have to pay for them to get me off the mountain top

Agreed the Rattlesnake hike is easy and views are spectacular. Not really a hike in my opinion. I took my kids up there when they were five or six and they easily made it. Mount Major probably will be a challenge for some middle aged women would be my guess. But I'm certain all could make the very gradual Rattlesnake hike to see beautiful Squam.

Thanks again for the great idea and link to the site for further details and directions. Another example of the "power of the people" with respect to information sharing on this great forum!

Without it they would have undoubtedly spent another beautiful Spring afternoon in front of the video game console.
