Saw marine patrol truck towing a white formula down rte 106 this week. Was that your boat?

Hope they catch the bassturds.

Insurance

Unfortunately, the owner didn't have insurance on the boat. In my opinion, if you can afford to own a Formula 252, you should be able to afford the $400 for insurance. I bet he wishes he spent the money for insurance now.

$400 for 252? I must be lucky, Mine is only $120 all inclusive with $750 deductible.
Yes, having no insurance is crazy!

fatlazyless 09-27-2018 07:49 AM

Was it removed from the deep by www.watermarkmarine.com since they are close by, and wonder how much the removal charges cost for a sunk boat like this?

With no insurance coverage, you basically become your own insurance company. Yes, like I always wanted to be my very own insurance company after a loss event ..... duh ...... not fun!

Major 09-27-2018 07:59 AM

Oh oh!

I must be getting screwed! I pay $400 for a 2001 Maxum 2300 SC. That's where I got my number from.

iw8surf 09-27-2018 08:45 AM

Not having insurance??? STUPID

webmaster 09-27-2018 08:55 AM

I wonder how they knew it was at the bottom of Meredith Bay.

I can't find any news articles about it. If anyone finds one please post it.

strum 09-27-2018 08:56 AM

Not my boat I just saw the post on "I Boat on LW" Thought I would put it over here incase anyone saw anything.

I also pay 130 for all inclusive with 800 deductible.

thinkxingu 09-27-2018 09:06 AM

No insurance is absurd, not just for one's own protection but for everyone else's.

The deductible is what drives the cost of you boaters insurance... I think my deductible is $500.... and my insurance for the boat was around 200$.....
The other thing that drives the cost of you boat insurances is the type of policy... there are two types... One is to insure the boat for an agreed upon price, generally the purchase prices, or surveyed cost of the boat.. The other type just insures the boat for NADA value of the boat at the time of incident...

upthesaukee 09-27-2018 09:57 AM

One other item

One other item may be part of your policy and will have an effect on price: navigation period. Some policies only provide in water coverage for a specified period. Typical exclusion is from November through March inclusive.

What about any of the businesses along the Channel leading out of the bay under the bridge. Maybe one of those marinas have a cam set up. Worth checking into

Another

Sounds like another was taken last night in Meredith. This time a Pontoon boat on a lift...this is getting outrageous.

Really, you would call this outrageous... Honestly, I am surprised that there isn't more of an issue with stolen boats. As the area continues to grow, crime is going to go on the rise... I hate to say that but it is true... and anyone that has been around boating for a while realizes one thing..... Boats are very easy steal... be it to use it for a joy ride at night and then set adrift... or to take load on a trailer and haul away...

I myself am getting closer and closer to deciding to put in a camera pointing at my dock.... The deciding factor of when that will happen will probably be directly linked to when I decide to get a newer boat...

Mine would be real easy to steal. Sometimes I leave the key right in it all weekend until I leave.

a $200 Nest Cam, with a 7 day recording history(add $5.00) and you're in business !

RUGMAN 09-28-2018 05:17 PM

Just read a Tritoon was stolen, was on a lift, thief cut the cut the wires lowered the boat and took it. What is going on?

Cobalt 25 09-28-2018 09:13 PM

A guy's boat was stolen and sunk and he offered a reward for help in finding the responsible parties. To add to the poor boater's unhappiness over losing his boat he gets insulted for not having insurance. I think it's obvious he knows that by now.

Jason, sorry to hear about your loss. I hope it will possible to get it running again. At least you have some time to get it done before next summer. Good luck!

That article.....wow. Melodramatic much?

So the captain owns two businesses, works as an aerospace consultant, raising two girls and doesn't understand the importance of insurance?

The reward money alone covers the boat and deductable.

Rich people and poor people self-insure.

fatlazyless 10-03-2018 06:27 PM

Let this thread be a lesson to everyone, if it has a motor, then it should have its' own insurance policy.

An uninsured loss can be very expensive, and take months and years to unfold, but if you got an insurance policy, everything gets done by your friendly insurance coverage.

If it does not have a motor, which could be a row boat, small sailboat, kayak, canoe, stand up paddle board, or foam noodle (ha ha ha), then it gets covered by standard home owner's insurance policy.

Cobalt 25 10-03-2018 07:00 PM

When I read the article he didn't appear to be a wealthy individual at all. He had to sell his motorcycle and did plowing for a winter in order to pay for the 25 year old boat.

I hope he is able to finish getting it ready for next summer!

And speaking of Meredith Bay- our boat, loaded to the gills for a one week island rental, almost ended up on the bottom of that Bay after launching. Yup, I forgot to put in the plug. I informed a boat pulling up to the dock and we quickly dashed out to install the plug. Lots of water in the engine compartment but we were OK.

I make mistakes, don't we all? :)

If a "Millennial", a high percentage have tattoos and are regulars at "recreational pharmaceuticals". They're trying to get the most entertainment out of their dollar, but are spending themselves into the poor farm. We'd have millions-more millionaires if they'd invested in Mutual Funds instead. :look:

(Imagine—it was my union who suggested this!) :eek2:

For a year—maybe two? I'd self-insure as well...

....it don't matter what insurance company you get ..... think of any well known brand name insurance .....plus a whole lot other lesser known insurance names ...... just that you got it ...... insurance coverage is just as important as good brakes, good tires, and good windshield wiper blades

I know a lot of “old farts” spending themselves into the poor farm. Stupidity isn’t the sole purview of the young!

Is everything OK with "Fat"? I have only been on the forum for about a year, but this is the first time I have seen his posts make any sense... It is refreshing!

From the LDS article, it seems likely that this was not as much as stolen boat as a vandalized boat. They went to remarkable lengths to sink it--what was the motive?

Jason--you might ask who wishes you ill, knows you own the boat, and has the mechanical aptitude to rig the bilge pump.
