My mom has spent her entire life summering @ our family's home on Smith Point. This past summer was difficult as she has some form of arthritis which is making it difficult to get around. She can no longer climb stairs to the second floor where the bedrooms are...so a stair lift was installed. She is unable to get around the property.... so she got an electric power chair that enables her to get around. She and Dad have settled into a winter rental that's all one level, warm and cozy even in the coldest of weather. No more travelling to warmer climates for the winter as they used to. Travelling just got to be too much!! I feel a certain dread as we approach this winter. My mom loves her home on Winnipesaukee. Has she spent her last summer there? Will she be healthy enough to return to her spot on the lake for summer of 2009?? I can't imagine Lake Winnipesaukee without her there. She and the lake are one and the same to me. It just dawned on me that as a young woman (early 20's) I felt the same way about my grandmother. I guess to this day I do continue to associate my memories of her with the lake also. Thank goodness for those memories!
