There are many Forum members with loved ones in the military. Since this topic is non lake related, I am starting this blog dedicated to our nation's heroes.
It would be great if you could post here and share your stories and experiences with your Forum family.
Since becoming friends with WinnDixie and learning about her grandson, it has really personalized our troops for me.
I have a renewed mission to do a little something to support our troops. Thanks WinnDixie!

Thanks, AW!
Thanks for your thoughts. Freedom sure isn't free!
I'd also like to ask all to remember Winni-retired and his family now. He has two loved ones in harm's way, and it's not an easy road for the family...can be scary and often lonely. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated all the Forum support when my grandson was in Afghanistan. Now Winni-retired has one in Pakistan. They will not hear even as much from his son as we did from Scott...so it is harder yet. I know he will appreciate all the support that comes his way!Posted 09-30-2010 at 04:08 PM by WinnDixie -
Patriot Guard Riders - You Don't Have to Ride!
Patriot Guard Riders
Patriot Guard Riders Mission Statement
The Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation. We have one thing in common besides motorcycles. We have an unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for America’s freedom and security. If you share this respect, please join us.
We don’t care what you ride or if you ride, what your political views are, or whether you’re a hawk or a dove. It is not a requirement that you be a veteran. It doesn't matter where you’re from or what your income is; you don’t even have to ride. The only prerequisite is Respect.
Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic objectives:
We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means.
1. Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities.
2. Shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protester or group of protesters.
To those of you who are currently serving and fighting for the freedoms of others, at home and abroad, please know that we are backing you. We honor and support you with every mission we carry out, and we are praying for a safe return home for all.Posted 10-01-2010 at 11:06 AM by Rattlesnake Gal -

Goodnight Saigon by Billy Joel
I heard this very appropriate song today on 11-11-11 and it brought me to tears. Came home on found a video on YouTube... talk about overwhelming.
Goodnight Saigon by Billy Joel
We met as soul mates on Parris Island
We left as inmates from an asylum
And we were sharp, as sharp as knives
And we were so gung ho to lay down our lives
We came in spastic like tameless horses
We left in plastic as numbered corpses
And we learned fast to travel light
Our arms were heavy but our bellies were tight
We had no home front, we had no soft soap
They sent us Playboy, they gave us Bob Hope
We dug in deep and shot on sight
And prayed to Jesus Christ with all of our might
We had no cameras to shoot the landscape
We passed the hash pipe and played our Doors tapes
And it was dark, so dark at night
And we held on to each other
Like brother to brother
We promised our mothers we'd write
And we would all go down together
We said we'd all go down together
Yes we would all go down together
Remember Charlie, remember Baker
They left their childhood on every acre
And who was wrong? And who was right?
It didn't matter in the thick of the fights
We held the day in the palm of our hands
They ruled the nights, and the nights
Seemed to last as long as six weeks...
...On Parris Island
We held the coastline, they held the highlands
And they were sharp, as sharp as knives
They heard the hum of our motors
They counted the rotors
And waited for us to arrive
And we would all go down together
We said we'd all go down together
Yes we would all go down togetherPosted 11-11-2011 at 05:02 PM by Rattlesnake Gal -
