The Porch - The Lakes Region Real Estate Report November 2015
As I was performing the annual fall ritual of bringing in the porch furniture, I thought it might be a good time to reflect, pause, and ponder that specific American architectural institution; the porch. In America, we have front porches, side porches, back porches, entry porches, screened porches, three season porches, four season...

The decision to buy in the Lakes Region or on the Cape is a question that repeatedly surfaces when working with buyers looking for a second home in this area. The answer to the question is easy for someone who has lived on the lakes all his or her life. But let us at least try to look at the question objectively.
The Lakes Region versus Cape Cod debate is not an age-old question in the same category as what the universe if made of or the biological basis of consciousness, but it is...

Day 1
We arrived today for a week on the Lake. I am going to post at least once a day to this blog with some comments, observations and a summary of what we did. I'll briefly report on the restaurants we went to and anything I find interesting. We are staying on the water near Weirs Beach and hope to be out on the boat as much as possible.
The weather is better than expected today with scattered clouds and temperatures in the mid-70s. The boat traffic at the Weirs was...

Welcome to our new Blogs. They can be used to post thoughts, musings, rants, information and just about anything else on your mind.
Unlike a forum thread, you control your blog. You can choose to allow comments or not and can moderate the comments if you want to. Although we encourage you to post about subjects related to the Lakes Region this is not required. You can blog about anything you want here while the Forum will still be completely dedicated to Lakes Region topics. ...

Hello,
Thanks to the Webmaster for yet another feature on this great web site.
A few hours ago we returned from the college graduation and early dinner celebration for our 1st child, daughter Lauren. Boy how quickly time passes. Our other child, Jonathan, graduates from High School soon and is off to college in September.
So today as my kids grow, mature, and develop just as they are supposed to do, I'm full of many different emotions.

This is a great new feature and I applaud the Webmaster for allowing this. I have decided to use this space to blog about Island Life.
THE SEARCH BEGINS
So often questions arise concerning Island Life and all that comes with it. There are so many great things about life on Cow Island that probably mirror those experiences on many of Lake Winnipesaukee's islands. As most islanders would attest there are many challenges to life on the islands but the reward is so sweet. ...

Let's see...let's start with semi-retirement. In the summer of 2007, my wife and I looked forward to March 2008 and me reaching a point in life where I could file for retirement and start collecting Social Security (I will not start a debate or partake in one on that subject ). I was not in a rush to do so, and so I did not do much except go on Social Security's website and check out a few things. I already had my annual statement, and knew approximately how much I would be getting per...

I decided I would Blog about my wonderful long weekend at the Lake. I just returned about an hour ago from a weekend full of beautiful weather and more sweet memories.
We (my daughter Caitlin and I) arrived early Friday afternoon for our 2nd trip up to Lake Winnipesaukee this August. First time I came up with the rest of the Family....Hubby and youngest daughter, they unfortunately could not share in our 2nd trip up because of work obligations for my Husband and Band Camp for...

I've had many ideas of what I could write in my Blog then I sit down to type and my mind goes blank. That's fodder for another Blog entry some other time.
Today is Friday the 13th and I'm reminded that some folks are afraid of the number 13. Some elevators and buildings don't even recognize a 13th floor - the floor number "jumps" from 12 to 14. All this fear because of superstition about the number 13. Combine that with a Friday and some people cower. Triskaidekaphobia,...

After signing the Purchase and Sales agreement in July of 2002 the race was on! The race to find..... FURNITURE. You see, the place was completely empty. Yup, most likely the only Island house in the history of Island houses to come completely UN-furnished, save for a wicker furniture set. So we began the process of asking any and all friends and family members for free furniture. You'd be surprised what you can get if you just ask. I found myself traveling all over the state of MA, to pick...

We all appreciate the kind comments, thanks. While Lauren is looking for work, one of the requirements is the ability to be off the weeks we have scheduled for the Lake. The last few seasons she spends a night or 3 every few weeks on board the boat with a few of her girlfriends. I would do a day trip up to drive them in the boat.
Lauren also is the one who helps me with boat chores. She secures us at the dock, does the canvas, AC wire and will drive (not dock) if she has to (yes,...

Some idle thoughts at work on a Thursday night, waiting for 8PM to roll around...
Am I the only one in New England still excited about watching the World Series? Was crushed to see the Sox lose, but I just can't get enough baseball. Great time of year...October baseball, and tonight (Thursday) going to light the fireplace for the first time this season...
Been only two weeks, and missing camp and Meredith more than usual...
I remember posting and debating...

As I sit here today I am beyond excited. My wife and I have spent the past two days doing little projects around our home. All in preparation for our trip up to the Island. We will be spending almost the entire summer on the island.
With that said I will post-pone my much anticipated "First Impressions" to a later date. I will post that once we get settled in this week and I have time to sit by the water and type away. For now I wanted to blog on about what I am feeling...

I have been meaning to try this out all summer, but no time. Now it's fall.Tomorrow the boat gets winterized, then it's on with the fall chores.
I really like this time of year things quiet down.I went to the VK for breakfast today, the first time since May, no lines! I can enjoy the lake we all love so well with no crowds. Even going out on a crisp morning to pick up leaves is kind of nice.I guess the only thing I miss are the longer days it gets dark too early this time of year.
