I was looking for a safe and legal place to jump about 10 feet into the water in the lakes region. Maybe a rock or platform into deep water. I saw a place last summer near Mt Washington where kids were jumping about 30 feet into a river. That's a little too extreme for me and my family but it looked like fun. Is anyone aware of a place near (or on) Winnipesaukee a little less extreme such as 10 feet? Of course we're looking for an area that has public access.

Fun? Did you say FUN? Sorry, activities involving jumping into the lake from a height of more than three and a half inches is considered way too dangerous by many people in our litigious society.
There used to be a ledge near Minge Cove across from Rattlesnake that provided an opportunity to jump into deep water. It could be dangerous if you chose the highest spot and didn't jump out far enough. Someone eventually bought the property and posted it. Probably a good idea from their point of view, most people would do the same. But it was fun.
I hope someone posts the location of a spot where you CAN jump off something into the lake. I've enjoyed doing it for years, and my son now does jumps that even scare me. As long as the location is safe and the water is plenty deep, it is a lot of fun. I commend you for asking if such a place exists.
Expect, however, negative feedback. If a family member or friend has been injured while engaging in this activity, a person might feel obligated to present an opposing view. If you choose to drive an automobile, it could be dangerous. If you choose to jump ten feet into the water, it also could be dangerous. It's the choice we make.
Good luck finding a safe spot.

My friends and I always head over the jump off the cliffs...not sure if I want to disclose the location, but I'll be generous enough to provide a picture and maybe some other member will be kind enough to give away this secret :liplick:

Might that be the small island, can't recall the name, right next to 3 Mile?

Been there many times. Former Girl Scott camp island in a relatively remote location on the lake. You need a boat to get there. I believe the Lake Preservation Trust group controls the island now.

I know that ledge. Best to keep it under your captain's cap! Or it will be off limit!
There use to be a number of rope swings on the lake. Unfortunately they were taken down and No trespassing signs are posted. The best one was on Paugus Bay. Pretty soon we won't be able to enjoy any water sport on the lake.
I am counting my blessings that I grew up on this lake during the best times. I was able to enjoy this lake to her fullest. :D
I just feel bad that future generations will not enjoy the 'Tom Sawyer / Huck Finn' atmosphere, I enjoy the most! :(

I want the town Rec Dept to mount a short platform, with handrail, to the top rail of the Long Island Bridge. The shape of that rail is too darn hard to balance on, and once up on it you have to commit to the dive (or jump for the timid) or step back to the sidewalk. Oh, and the navigation lights underneath will have to me modified to include a red-yellow "pedestrian interval" with the button up by the platform. And fire the lawyers, too.
Now, I ain't saying I actually dove off the top rail, or more than once over the years, latest allegedly being when I was only around 60, while a bunch of easily impressed kids watched me do what they probably were boasting to others they were going to do before the end of the summer. I wouldn't want to be testifying against myself, so the above could be just heresay.

Are there any that still exist? The inner redneck in me wants to don a pair of cut-off jeans and do what I haven't done in a long time.... I think there are some rope swings on the river when you rent kayaks.

Just keep that spot up north to yourself. Some of us have been going there a long time, but more and more people keep showing up. It gets worse every year.
By the way, at that spot you can find a jump from 8ft to well over 30ft if you are willing to climb the trees. Just be ready that water is COLD.

If you're ever in Sanford, Maine there's Mousem River and a PUBLIC place where you can do this... it's part of the Sanford Parks and Rec program. There's some rocks that are a good 30' from the water - called Indians' Last Leap (google it for pics). It will scare the snot outta ya and is redneck heaven if there ever was one... :D

Upper Falls is no secret at all. It's been a popular swimming hole for decades. It has also had a few fatalities so be very carefull. And yes, the water temp stays very cold well into the summer with the snow melt from Mt Washington.

I understand that it is no secret, but seems like everytime you go there, people just get worse and worse on how the rotation works.
Spending an afternoon there will give a good idea of why there are fatalities at that location. Some folks are absolutely crazy when it comes to showing off.
Maybe I am just becoming less and less tolerant of large crowds, especially as you see these areas getting closed.

If anyone ever makes it over to Sebago, Frye's Leap is a great jumping spot!
A couple summers back, a huge aft cabin cuiser would often anchor behind Timber Island. People would climb up on the roof of the flybridge and jump. Had to be at least 12' maybe 15'.
I guess if you have enough money you can make your own spot.

That was the BEST spot! Spent many afternoons hanging out jumping, then relaxing and watching others jump.
Sadly, there are several houses there now.

There is a spot in Spindle Point , a home is built on a giant rock, it is private property however, depending on your courage you can jump from 10 feet to 30 feet!
