My mom told me this morning that the Alton police arrested a local firefighter for a string of arson fires in empty homes.

Hope that puts an end to all the fires in Alton and New Durham. Scary to think it was a fireman who claimed, according to what I read, that he was just bored.

Sad.

Arsonists are frequently volunteer firemen. They love fire.

Groan and nasty... Most Fireman and EMS personnel volunteer their time to serve you with their own time and at their own cost. Perhaps you are too narrow to understand this, no: not perhaps, you ARE too narrow. Myself and many others have spend our own valuable time going through training, at our own personal expense, to have the 'privilege' of responding to your emergency to save you.

Fireman are just like the Police, there are the Good, Bad and the Ugly. Next time you call 911 think of who will respond, the professionals? Not likely in the rural areas, it will be the volunteers

SHAME ON YOU :(, back to your closet and CLOSE THE DOOR

I don't think ClosetExtrovert intended that to be inclusive. While it is true that often arsonists are volunteer firemen, it is also true that volunteer firemen are virtualy never arsonists.

At my winter quarters, there was a similar story—but the fires were set in grassy areas, well-apart from residences.

A clever police arson investigator tied the mysterious blazes to a County fireman by checking on the hour (and minute) when he'd be eligible for "Overtime Pay". :(

This was the same County that famously hired a NYC fireman who'd retired on "disability". :rolleye1:

One former police arson investigator had a motto that showed the necessary determination for investigating arson cases:
"There are arsons, and there are fires that are intentionally set ".
That determined investigator (a friend from work and race track) is now a partner with Attorney Roy Black (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Black_(attorney)).

Oh give it a rest. I was an EMT for 4 years and gave it up when I had children and I was not taking a shot at anyone. I didn't say most fireman and EMS personnel are arsonists. I said Arsonists are often volunteer firemen. Geesh. And I'm not taking it back because it's true.

A little dyslexic today are we.

He wrote "Arsonists are frequently volunteer firemen." NOT ""Volunteer firemen are frequently arsonists.""

And national statistics for arsonist back his statement up.
