Does anyone know what the lowdown is on the Hometown Grocery on Route 25 in Moultonboro? Last week, early one evening, the folks seemed to be putting a padlock on the front door, and there've been no signs of life since then. Have they closed ?
Sure doesn't sound to good. Is that the old Emphorium?

I believe it is closed. They had a 50% off closing sale and that's seems to it.
Also, Gilligan's had been to auction last year and I guess it didn't sell as there is a ReMax sign out front.
Noticed the sign I think yesterday that the store is now "For Lease" by NH Business Sales. My husband, who got to know the owner over their short time span fairly well, indicated about a month ago that he was probably going to have to close up shop. On top of not producing any sales, the utilities in that place evidently were VERY expensive...$10,000 a month electricity bill?????

Probably, the chain of 1600 Hannaford's-Food Lion super-markets in the United States (2600-worldwide) is able to utility shop from all the hundreds of electric ultilities across the U.S. and get a lowest price-highest quality type of an electric deal for themselves. With all those refrigerated displays/store, it's got to add up to lots of power use and lots of electric power savings for Hannaford.
Sorry to hear about the Moultonborough grocery & gas closing up. If you are looking to shop a genuine local store with super quality and good prices....maybe take a peek at Heath's Super & Heath's Hardware in Center Harbor. If Heath's were to close up then only Hannaford would be remain.
Surprise....Heath's Hardware Store now has courtesy cups of hardware store coffee from Vermont Green Mt coffee roasters for all us local losers who are just look'n to kill some time in a nice warm store :)! Way-to-go.....Heath Hdwe:)!

He has struggled for months to keep that place open. What a shame. He cleaned it up nicely, and had fair prices.

seems like a lot of businesses( especially food and restaurants) can't make it through the winter. When we show up in the spring I always look to see what didn't make it. This year more than usual.
