My family is seriously contemplating a move to the Lakes Region area of NH. We have three children ages 6, 11, and 14. Our main concern is the quality of public schools in the area. Does anyone have informaiton (good & bad) on both public and private schools in Gilford, Meredith &/or Laconia. Also, our 6 year old has special needs and ould require those services in a public system. Any feedback on the special ed services in these districts??

We would be uprooting from Rhode Island in about one year---Anyone out there that has relocated to NH ?? Any experences to share...

Thanks.....

NH District Assessment (http://www.measuredprogress.org/nhprofile/DistAssess.cfm?MyYear=2001-2002&MyDist=015&MyDistName=Alton&MySch=&MyTown=)
Alton seemed to be a good starting point, then use the pull down menu on the left to see other area towns. Hope this is helpful for you.

Personal Experience here: We live in Alton and two of our grandchildren came to live with us from Manchester. They arrived here in April, and the granddaughter went right into the school. Our grandson had some special needs as he was in the third grade and couldn't even read at a first grade level. He was held out of school until they (Alton Central School) could get an aide hired (actually a certified teacher!) and then put him in a 3rd grade class with the aide with him full time. This continued in the fourth grade, at which time he improved dramatically. In the fifth grade, he was mainstreamed and was able to perform fifth grade work at fifth grade student level. He is now a 6th grader and hit the honor roll one quarter this year!!!!

His previous school district said he would never amount to much... :rolleye2:

Are we proud of him (and his sister who is doing very well, too)? Oh yeah.
Are we proud of the Alton School system, its administators and educators?

You bet your bippy we are!!!!!!!

Alton would be a great place to start looking, and I hope you can make the move to the lakes region, and maybe Alton.
