Just wondering if the massive 4" storm we got has helped in any way to ride on the lake?

Not massive enough for us NH natives. Need a foot or more.

I agree, my reference to the massive 4" storm was meant to imply that storm was a joke

There were quite a few snowmobiles on the lake today, but it is far from ideal conditions. It hit 40 degrees. The thin coating of snow is enough to keep the sled track lubed, but the ice makes steering tough. Some soft spots are starting to show up around the rocks too. It is no longer mid-winter conditions. This weekend, temperatures are supposed to warm up into the 30s, so there should be a layer of slush on top to make snowmobiling OK. It will have to do - the trails in the woods did not get enough

I drove by Meredith Bay a half hour ago. Tuesday's new snow is now all slush and standing water. Other areas of the lake might have better conditions, but the riding on Meredith Bay this evening would have been ugly.

Same in Moultonboro. The open water from the Ambrose Cove Marina docks is reaching out into the middle of the cove. The ice has not grown in a couple of weeks and the surface is wet. If we can't have winter come on SPRING.

We will be posting the trails closed in Moultonboro this weekend. We have too many open fields, icy areas and such. With the longer days and higher temps we are concern about damage to the Land Owner properties that our trails cross on.
We would probably need the "Storm of The Century" to consider opening any of the trails.

George,
Thanks for the heads up. What a bummer of a season around these parts. I am sorry that all of your hard work seems to have been unrewarded this year. Thanks for all of what you guys do to make our season so enjoyable... when there is snow.

We were up at the lake this weekend. Most of the trails on the Laconia side appear pretty much devoid of snow...bare ground everywhere. I am probably going to pack the sleds up this weekend, barring a major storm during the week. Tough winter...looking at the cost of insurance and registration, my one ride was a very expensive one. :D

Have you guys not seen the forecast for the next 3 days? Looks like potential for lots of snow. Fingers crossed.

According to the radar pictures and futurecasts on WMUR, it looks like a lot of rain out of the 2nd storm, so we'll probably lose most of what we get tonight and tomorrow. Sorry:(It's fine with me though, I can't wait for spring, I'm ready:)

Looks like a bust now for the lakes region. We have zero snow on the ground here in Manch after a forecast by the guys across the street for anywhere of 3-8 inches. Looks like the Thurs night storm is almost all going to be heavy rain. The never seem to get the rain forecast wrong.:(

Look at the bright side. At least corollaman will be happy so we won't have to listen to him whine about the snow!
I'm a Winter lover but at this point, what's the point? The ice is deteriorating and the ground is no longer frozen. I enjoy skiing and hope the mountain snows continue but I'd prefer if my driveway stays brown. Wait a sec...am I agreeing with corollaman?

To heck with it! I'm heading to Pittsburg! They have plenty of snow up there and much more on the way. I have to get some miles on the sleds this year!

You're gonna have to go north young man. I would say that the season is over south of the Franconia Notch. How can it be over if it never even started? Ugh.

Yup. Or west. Some Vermont ski areas recieved anywhere from 30-40 inches. We got the total screw job at Cannon. 3 inches.

What season was the snow in the lakes region this bad? I can't remember, I was thinking 2002-2003. I think I need my crying towel now....

Def. wasn't 02-03, we got tons of snow that year. I think you are thinking of 01-02. That was warm and crappy. This year was cold and dry (until yesterday that is).

It is looking like winter sports for the area are over. This is unfortunate as many love being out doing active things in the winter. Although there still could be a snow storm or two well into March, the base is gone and the edges of the lake are gone as well.
Be safe getting the bob-houses off, and do it sooner than later.
This could be a March ice out!

I gave up - traded the sleds for a bike - I love the winter but need the snow to really enjoy it. Now spring can't come soon enough!!!!!
