"She who must be obeyed" and your humble narrator flew into MHT from PDX on 7/27; it is always odd to arrive in New England after an absence, as the differences between the right and left coasts are not subtle.
For example: out here, near Portland Oregon, there are lots of older, rust-free vehicles, especially pickups and imports. In NE, the rigs are newer, bigger, and mostly domestic.
I believe money could be made by importing older but sound rust free vehicles from here and selling them to folks in NE.
Out West, there are always vistas to view from the freeways. In NE, mostly your view is blocked by trees and shrubs.
Most trees in NE are fairly short hardwoods, out West they are evergreens, especially fir.
Spent 2 weeks on vacation at the Lake.
I noted lots of green slime has adhered to the hull of the moored boats this year. Odd. Leaking septics?
Tourism is definitely down. Most places had vacancies, there were not a lot of boats on the lake.
A disturbing trend is evident; a property is purchased, the existing building levelled, and a McMansion erected in its place. Goodbye, bucolic lakeside retreat, hello garish "look at me!" excess.
Canoe restaurant is superb.
Made 2 trips to the Weirs, mostly to buy cheap T-shirts and Foster Grants. Who can resist such a bargain?
When the warm weather cooled, went to Cape Cod, Mystic, and Mohegan Sun. Great places, all.
And yes, I hit a dollar slot for a thousand dollar jackpot.
The bagels at Hannafords were foul, while those at Shaws were good.
Nice Sunday brunch at the William Tell, and as usual, a decent chesse steak at Waldo Peppers.
Downtown Laconia continues to slide into oblivion.
Goodbye, movie theater, hobby shop etc.
Will the last one leaving Laconia please turn out the lights?
