We are looking for options to stay at the lake over the next few weeks. Must be clean, at least queen beds, free high speed internet access and a bonus would be cable tv that gets NESN.

Also want the price under 100 per night for two adults. Less is better!!!

We prefer Alton, Gilford Laconia but would consider other locations. We will be bringing the snowmobiles so access to the lake and trailer parking is essential.

.

Say Island Girl, I have a spare bedroom with a twin size bed, if you don't mind using dial-up and tap water straight out of the lake.. Believe the Meredith McD has free hi-speed wifi.

Great offer, FLL.... I

Ha.. the dial up just will not do to watch the BU/BC Hockey game!!

Thanks for the offer! Less is very generous!

I'd still like to know what happened to the Fireside Inn. But the Margate is not far down the road from Gilford.

Do you mean this Fireside Inn? http://firesideinngilford.com/
Your post suggests they're not there ( unless I'm reading it incorrectly) but their booking engine allowed me to check availability, so perhaps that's not what you were inferring.

The Fireside .. aka B Mae's is still very much open and was going to be my suggestion for IG.

My wife and I stayed there last week-end and I must say we were quite impressed -- very clean rooms (cable tv), nice pool and hot tub (which we used) and it's obvious location. Although we did not sled, it would appear to me that you could sled off right from the parking lot --

IG - we got a "Managers Special" for $89/nite for a King bedroom by calling and not using the web booking. I don't believe there is anything unique about the special as we got the same deal last year in February when we ventured up.

.....and they're pet-friendly! I got a kick out of this on their website...

When asked if we allow dogs at our hotel, here's what we generally reply:
"Dogs are welcome in this hotel. We've never had a dog that smoked in bed and set fire to the blankets. We've never had a dog who stole the towels, played the TV too loud or had a fight with his traveling companion. We've never had a dog who got drunk and broke up the furniture. So, if your dog can vouch for you, you're welcome, too".

I love that mcdude!!!! I should print it out and take it to every hotel or motel that we go to with ours.

Fireside/B Mae's sounds like what you are looking for. You can snowmobile over to Patricks and get on the trails there. There is also a trail behind the parking lot which has access to the lake

IG,

Are you thinking that the ice will not be ready so you can stay on the island?

What about the FREE HIGH SPEED INTERNET that was a must. Do most Motels have High speed internet????:)

I usually stay at B Maes for the ice derby. Their website says they now have free high speed wired through out. Wi-Fi in the lobby.

They give AAA discounts too.

Try the TownePlace Suites in Gilford. It is brand new, has trailer parking, and a corridor trail just across the street. During the off season, if you call direct, and book several nights, I suspect you will get a rate below $100.

And I thought it was up for sale? This is the one right across the street from Patricks Pub right?

I am sooooo confused.:D

Lakesrider -- You are absolutely correct. From the street side, given the large "For Sale" sign standing out front the place looks shut down. But I assure you it's not! nor is the interior reflecting a "For Sale" condition

Glad to hear..... I have some friends coming up from MA to go skiing in Feb. I had told them it was up for sale. DOH! I guess I'll be calling them back today!:D

IG -

If you're looking for something in Alton, the Riverview on the 11/28 circle is very plain, but clean and they have both standards rooms and efficiencies with a queen size bed for around $75/night. They do have cable with NESN provided. I don't know for sure if they have wifi, but it's right in town and maybe McDonald's across the circle has wifi. I've stayed there the past 2 winters.

Perhaps we should add this to the "you know your in New Hampshire when"...

We ended up at the Belknap Point Motel. The view from our room was wonderful, Welch Island, the Forties and Mt. Washington.

The innkeeper was warm and personable, the room was clean and comfortable. The bed was better than most I have had in the region. The winning point was the flat screen TV with NESN so we could watch the BU/BC Hockey game in the evening.

I would recommend this motel very much.

We had breakfast at my favorite lunch place, Kitchen Cravings. It was disappointing. Cold home fries and very burnt toast. My companion did not want to complain.

I will still lunch there... the sliders are to die for!

Anyone know if the Lakeview Inn in Wolfeboro is open for lodging? I know it's changed hands. Heading down to Tuftonboro from Montreal and wanted to stay near the homestead. Pine View has a two-night policy and "No Vacancy" sign hanging, so I think that's out (making way for more dining space -- good for them!).

Pardon my hijacking the thread...

Stopped in at the Lakeview Inn Friday, 19 February at about 3:30 PM as we have done many times in the past at this time of the year. (Never needed reservations.)

Place is now FOR SALE and no cars at all in the lot. Big FOR SALE signs plastered on the building, and out in front. NB

Yes, it's for sale, and has been for about a year now.

We stayed there Saturday night.

All I can add is that W'boro sure ain't making it easy for people to remain in business in the area. What a shame.

We stayed at the Wolfeboro Inn in late January for one night.

While we didn't dine there, the rooms were very nice, reasonably priced, and we would stay there again.
