The admiral and I are trekking over to the lake this weekend. We're looking for some breakfast place ideas in the Meredith and Center Harbor area on Sat. morning.

Suggestions?

Loads of places there, and some good lunch and dinner suggestions as well!

Next to Mame's is a great place for breakfast. Center Harbor Diner in Center Harbor is also good.

A couple miles beyond Center harbor on 25 is the Village Kitchen. Owned and operated by "Samiam" of this forum. This place is the best Breakfast in the Area. I have a place on Varney point in Gilford and drive the 25 min to the Village Kitchen every weekend I'm in town.

The food is great and plenty of it. The prices are very reasonable and the waitress's are funny and sharp. Not a high brow place but once you go you will be hooked.

It's worth the drive.

Thanks! Looks like we'll finally give them a try. Passed by many times heading into Moultonborough.

Thanks! Looks like we'll finally give them a try. Passed by many times heading into Moultonborough. Sam and Rosie's in Center Harbor is a fabulous place for breakfast and lunch. Although I haven't gone to dinner at the restaurant yet they are now open for dinner on the weekends. My husband and i have been eating at Sam and Rosie's for many years.

Best food! The lines out the door in the summer say it all! They even enclose the walkway into the restaurant in the winter because people line up on the weekends for their great breakfast.

LP, You will have made a wise choice, the VK is a great spot.

Now if we can get some snow covering the trails, we could start riding there- Samiam, please turn on your snowguns!

Another really good breakfast place is Kevin's Cafe on Route 25 (eastbound) in Moultonboro - about half mile past the set of lights in Center Harbor. The Heuvos Ranchero are great and the eggs Benedict are only $6 - that is not a typo - six bucks. Also, like the VK, his hash browns are wickedly good.

DM, That is why I love this forum, you learn something new everyday- I had no idea Kevin did breakfast too- when does he sleep!

I agree about the Village Kitchen good, simple food. But be forewarned, they do not accept "plastic" there as I found out one time.:D

Thank goodness you told me. I must say though that I can't imagine any business today not having a card machine.

For the most part I don't even know what money looks like any more. I pay for everything via my yuppy food stamp (debit card).

We love Georges (next to Mames) in Meredith, but will be trying the Village Kitchen soon based on all of the glowing reviews.

I cannot believe that no one has mentioned:

Sunshine and Pa's in Meredith

They have my vote for best breakfast in that area!

VK does not accept plastic, but there is an ATM machine right inside the door.

I have never eaten in a restaurant that didn't accept credit cards.

Do you mean you wouldn't eat in one or just don't see them often?

I think in the past the fees were very high per transaction but they must be way down now because every fast food joint takes them. I fly a fair amount for business and most of the airlines only take plastic for onboard purchases- I have done $2 transactions on the plane. I still like cash.

Regardless, I hope you give the VK a shot.

It would be inconvenient for me to eat at a restaurant that didn't take plastic. I rarely have enough cash on me to pay for anything over @ $20.

If I have to use an ATM, then that might mean it will/could cost me more if it isn't affiliated with the card I use.

I guess the price, qualty and quantity of food at VK is good enough so that they don't have to worry about not accepting plastic. They are very fortunate to be able to do that in this day and age.

I also do a fair amount of traveling and I would be sleeping in the streets if I didn't have a credit card.

If you want to go the other way, try Kitchen Cravings. Haven't had a bad breakfast or lunch there yet. Lots of choices and different meals. Been going since they have been open. Next to airport.
