I just heard a news report that William Murray Clark of Clark's Trading Post fame has passed away at the age of 82. Mr. Clark was a great person who ran a wonderful family entertainment facility in Lincoln. His family started out with a sled dog ranch and then started a trained bear show as a sideline. The original shows had no cage between the bears and the people watching the show.

Soon, the bear show became the major attraction and a series of elaborate show rings were built over the years. Mr. Clark turned the show ring and bear training duties over to his son Murray and daughter Maureen. He was almost always at the shows and was a great person to talk to about the bears and NH life.

We all owe thanks for this man who worked hard to entertain many. May he rest in peace!

Clark's is both a lot of fun, and a lot of American history. Murray Clark's Clark's Trading Post is known for the bear shows and steam powered railroad which are really something to see but the reproduction American small town Main Street of the 19th century is real interesting too: very detailed and loaded with artifacts and antiques.

Fun & educational; water boats; an Old Man of the Mountain climbing wall; a genuine working antique, all-wood, Vermont, double-trussed railroad bridge spans the Pemi River dedicated to a young local guy who helped build it & then got killed fighting the Vietnam War; steam engines; real steam musical caliopies, and a 125 year old, Disney style small town Main St-America.

A 1930 style gasoline station equipped with mucho 1930 style gasoline station equipment including a very big, brite green 1930 LaSalle.

All this, plus terrific soft ice cream in 3-flavors at a low price.

Definately, the best attraction go-to place in the Whites.

Many thanks........to Murray the Bear-Man!

I happened to be looking right at Clarks Trading Post as I read the Sunday News article about his death while eating breakfast next door at the Sunny Day Diner. The complex he built is quite a NH White Mt institution.

It is with deep sympathy that I am hearing of the passing of Mr. Clark. Our family (fairly new to the area 10 years) has gone to Clark's every summer, the kids just love the Bear Show and the infamous "Wolfman". I would like to send out my condolences to the Clark Family and especially Mr. Clark's daughter-in law Faith Clark who is a real estate broker in the area and with her sister Debi sold my family our house in Laconia.
