In the unlikely case that the weather co-operates and allows some clear sky, I just thought I'd pass along the following info. Tonight and into Thurs pre-dawn morning the annual Perseid meteor shower should be peaking. There have been some predictions that due to a possible 12 year cycle this years shower could be better than most. Best viewing is looking N - NE btw midnight Weds and dawn Thurs. Even if we're rained out during the peak you should go out this weekend and look up (again weather permitting). Post-peak rates are perhaps 20 - 25 % of peak rates and still beat the sporadic rate you'll see on any given night.
Thanks, Mee-n-Mac. Let's hope the sky clears and today's haze lifts so we can get a good view of the show.
Wish it wasn't always so cloudy everytime a celestrial event shows up in New England. Sunday night I caught four "shooting stars" within a half hour while in Moultonborough. The first one I saw came east to west and was a pretty orange. The other three were more distant and whitish but still showy. I have noticed though that you have to move away from the ever increasing lights up north to get a better view.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look promising for a good view of the sky tonight. At 7:30 PM, it is still very hazy and humid. Maybe the sky will clear ... let's keeping hoping! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_1_113.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001)
We watched from 10:00 - 10:30 PM but the continuing haze pretty much obscured the view. Once in a while we'd see some stars straight up above us, but they would soon fade out again into the haze. We saw no meteors during that half hour. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_14_2.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001)

I'm hoping after the 1'st storm there will be 1 night of clear skies. Rates won't be as high as this AM but still would make a nice capper to the Alton Bay fireworks.
ps - Where did you get the cool smileys ? I don't recall seeing them on the pop-up Winni list. I assume this means there are other supported types.

Mee-n-Mac - here's the link to download 10,000 smileys for free. It's hard sometimes to pick one to insert in an email because there are sooooooo many choices. Have fun.
