John Linville, on his excellent Wolfeboro Politics blog http://wolfeboropolitics.blogspot.com/, says the Great Waters project has ended with refunds to investors.

Does anyone else have any information about this? Anyone know what will happen to the land in Wolfeboro?

Every time we drive by, my wife and I sigh and think what a shame it was that the nice looking, and quaint, croquet field was torn down. But I doubt we'll see anything like that put back in it's place.

The last thing this world needs, even when the economy is booming, is another brick-and-mortar bank building.

One of the many evils of the bailouts is that they closed the market to entry by possibly functional competitors.

The price of not dismembering Bank of America is increased consolidation, perpetuation of bad business practices - and, the death of new entrants to the market.

GW was a good idea, at a not-so-good time, whose hill became impossibly steep once the decision to "save" the failing banks was made.

Too bad.

I have heard that it is done too, gokart, but I didn't think the original big investors were getting their money back. I hope they do but I heard they are not going to.

I must agree. When a business closes due to poor performance (this sorry bank couldn't even get its building built before it closed its doors, which doesn't happen too often!) it is unlikely there is excess cash in the till to "refund" investors.

I do hope that someone is able to get the croquet court restored but I fear that is also wishful thinking.

Well that would be tough as there is a giant concrete slab there now. Most likely another builder will purchase the slab and put something else in there.
I Had asked a long time ago why Wolfeboro even needed another bank...Well there is the answer. It didn't.
