We went to the inn/ tavern and much to my surprise... it seems to be the place for the 21 crowd... ( not all that old,y'know 40's & 50ish ourselves )
We didn't eat as it was getting late in the nite... but I guess as of late the young crowd hangs out there ( ID's needed )... had an ok time.. couple of drinks.
Still miss the old Tavern... I wish they could have restored it to keep the old tavern ambiance... oh well..

It's Christmas break; lots of young folk home for the holidays.
Go back again after NY Day and check it out to see if it's still filled with young 'uns.

That's a shame, you sounded so eager to have a good time and your second post sounds disappointed.
Why do you suppose it drew the younger crowd? Was it music or games (some do trivia and such)? Or was it just too cold out, and the kids were bored?

no, no music as I recall... I think it was just the Holidays as mentioned... yup because I've never seen all these kids before anywhere here actually...
oh, We'll go back and probably before long.... still can't stay away...
go figure... I still enjoyed our company that night ... just couldn't relate to alot of the patrons as we usually like to mingle among them..

I suspect that the Tavern has picked up a lot of the 51 mill st. (young) crowd.

The tavern has been heavily advertising the pub specials such as after work menu deals, and also activities aimed at the younger local crowd.

The younger, after work, bar and munchies crowd, is not the audience the Inn should be targeting if they want to stay in business as a fine dining room. Oh sure, the lure of quick money at the bar has a tendancy to obscure the larger view of the establishment as a whole. If the Inn cultivates the Tavern crowd they will effectively make themselves not attractive to families and mature diners. There are lots of examples of this right here in Wolfeboro - most notably the recent auction sale of 51 Mill Street; and, as an example of how a restaurant CAN be successful WITHOUT featuring the bar I point to Garwoods.
I'm sure this post will bother some people, but, time will tell.
Have a Happy New Year !!

I think with them its a matter of survival. They can't successfully run a restaurant (tavern) so maybe their only option is a bar for the younger set.

I think the older crowd goes to a Pub on your left on Rte 109 past 20 Mile Bay. I can't recall the name. Good food and reasonable prices. I hear it's a great gathering place for the local snowmobilers. Maybe that is where the older (more mature) crowd went.

Are you referring to Bucky's Bar B Q in Moutonboro?
The Tavern has always been a draw for the local bar crowd. The places seem to take turns, it's Jo Green's for a while, then the Tavern, then 51 Mill St., Rumors (when it existed), etc. They seem to last a couple of years and then there is a new poplular place where everyone goes. So they must just be going back to the Tavern again now.

Going to Moultonboro, it would be on the right, up a hill. I believe there is a motel next to it.

I think you are thinking of the Pinecone Cafe....
They will shortly be in 51 Mill Street in Wolfeboro... should be 4th or 5th of Jan.
I heard they are anxious to open...
so are alot of people !!
The auction of the 51 Mill St was on Dec 2nd. If the Pine Cone is planning on opening on Jan 4th or 5th. They must of had the bank all set prior to the auction. That is a very fast turn around for a loan.
I just hope it is true.

Doesn't leave much time to clean the kitchen
I have a friend who owns a professional cleaning company, and among the things they do, they clean restaurants and their kitchens. They have power equipment that will clean surfaces, fans, etc.. it is amazing to talk to him about how fast and how well they can clean.

I went to Wolf's tavern last night and ate in the bar, drinks and food, it was all very good. The bartenders appeared to be somewhat harried even though it wasn't very busy when I arrived, but otherwise performed well.
Has anyone heard any more about when they will open the new Pine cone?

I am pretty sure they are waiting until the spring to open. That's what I heard.
They had a help wanted ad in the Granite State - for two locations.
Every time I see the title of this thread I laugh. Wolves. It is Wolf's Tavern. It was named after General Wolf who lived in the town of Wolfeboro. He is the one who supposedly made Wolfeboro the "Oldest Summer Resort In America." I kinda' like Wolves though!!:laugh::laugh:

Tis:
General Wolf never stepped foot in the town of Wolfeboro. It was named after him after he died.
You are so right, I stand corrected. It was Wentworth who lived in the town. I must be getting old.

That's OK tis, it got me to read some things about Wolfeboro.
I'm reading some things now about their selectmen and it's getting juicey.
There could be another post about this little town, but I think I'll keep doing some research for the time being.

Yup, Google General James Wolfe of Plains of Abraham for the full story.
Back then, we didn't much care for the French. And his victory at Quebec removed the French threat. Hence his popularity on the Northern New England frontier.
Also, the oldest summer resort thing comes from provincial governor John Wentworth having a summer home here. His wider vision was to move the capital from Portsmouth to some place inland to foster the development of the hinterland. American Revolution got in the way. Good thing. Imagine the capitol dome dominating downtown Wolfeboro!

Anybody remember the General Wolfe tavern when it used to be at the now Windrifter Resort....?
Wasn't the whole place called the General Wolfe Inn, Lakes? It's funny how you forget these things.

Back in 1970 or so it was known as the WOLFEBORO INN. Had breakfast there when it was owned by Lee Turner....a fellow iceboater who reported on ice conditions back before the internet. ....by telephone. NB

It does get confusing. The "General Wolfe":

"The Wolfeboro Inn" (and Tavern):
http://www.winnipesaukee.com/photopost/data/531/medium/wolfeboroinn8-23-2009_7_00_14_PM.JPG
(Both are McDude Photoposts). ;)
More trivia:
1) Last year was the 250th anniversary (semiquincentennial) of that 1759 battle.
2) General Wolfe didn't live to see the victory attributed to him. His 4500 troops are in the background of this painting.
http://media.thestar.topscms.com/images/d2/43/981146284493925e2dee361d44ce.jpeg
(This famous Benjamin West painting hangs in a Canadian National gallery. Maybe there's a copy somewhere in Wolfeboro  ).
3) General Wolfe was mortally wounded by a British deserter (http://74.125.93.132/search?q=cache:FSZmmrVoS4EJ:www.magic-city-news.com/Kenneth_Tellis/Great_Scot_-_The_Conquest_of_Quebec11420.shtml+%22general-wolfe%22,+%22george-washington%22,+quebec,+17**&hl=en&gl=us&strip=1)! :eek2:
4) General Wolfe was likely embalmed (http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-tap1.htm) and is entombed in Westminster Abbey (http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:NhR36C_gMzIJ:www.historytoday.com/dm_linkinternal.aspx%3Famid%3D30288421+%22wolfe%27 s-men%22&hl=en&gl=us&strip=1), England.
5) Taking the hint (a cannon pointed at his house just as the Revolutionary War got heated up), Governor Wentworth escaped to Nova Scotia (http://ns1763.ca/hfxrm/wentworthj.html), where he became Lieutenant Governor, 1792 – 1808.
OMG, yes Leigh. Before he went to Moosehead-----
