Acme Staple Co. is becoming the only domestic maker of specialty staples and is expanding its local production capacity.

Acme announced Monday that it has purchased the staple production capacity of the former ZEB Staples, a division of ZEB Manufacturing.
ZEB Staple's equipment has been moved to Acme's North Main Street production facility, making Acme the oldest and only remaining U.S.-based developer and manufacturer of a full range of specialty staples and staplers, the company said in a statement released announcing the ZEB acquisition.

Acme believes being the only staple company that can boast a U.S.-made brand will give it an competitive advantage.

Onno Boswinkel, Acme's executive vice president and general manager, said of the move, "We are excited with our acquisition of the manufacturing capacity of Zeb. It expands our production capabilities and enables us to shorten production lead times. This will allow us to be more responsive to current customers and support the needs of new ones."

Boswinkel indicated that Acme plans to offer much of ZEB's product line.

"With the demise of ZEB, and with the transfer by Spotnails of its remaining U.S. production capacity to Asia, Acme is the last and only U.S.-based manufacturer of specialty staples," Boswinkel said. "Many specialty staple customers value a U.S. source of supply for a variety reasons — shorter development and production lead times, lower shipping costs, secure supply and "Made in America" being among them.

"Acme will remain a viable and competitive US source of specialty staples for these customers for many years to come."

Founded in 1894, ACME designs and manufactures staples and staplers for a wide range of professional and industrial fastening applications.

My father worked there back in the early 90's, and he didn't think the place was still around!
