This past weekend we were in the area of Foxborough and stopped in at Bass Pro Shops (http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPageC?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&appID=94&storeID=58).

Located at One Bass Pro Drive - right next to Gillette Stadium.

If you have an outdoorsman in your family that enjoys fishing, hunting or boating, this place is worth the trip! It is very Disneyesque and was lots of fun!.

You may just run into someone from Lake Winnipesaukee like Rattlesnake Guy did. :D

Store Events (http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPage?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&appID=94&template=listallevents.cfm&storeID=58#29100)
They have live fish feeding in their aquarium Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 pm and Saturdays at 1:30 pm.

Hunting Workshops - November 18th through January 23, 2010.
Flyfishing Workshops - Thursday nights through December 17th.

Please note:

If taxidermy animals bother you, don't go - order online. ;) Amazing specimens!

Obviously, if there is a home game at Gillette, this area will be very congested. :o

I was overwhelmed by this place. RG is always asking if she is using the correct lure or bait to catch fish off our dock. My son and I walked over to the lure department and saw three white haired gentlemen behind the fishing reel counter.

The conversation that followed was both amazing and at times a bit funny.

Me: Hi, do you guys also handle the lures?

Clerk: What are you looking for?

Me: I want to catch bass in fresh water about 20 feet deep with a rockey bottom.

Clerk: What lake?

Me: Winnipesaukee.

Clerk: What part?

Me: (now I am getting concerned) Off of Rattlesnake on The Broads side?

Clerk: Bottom's pretty steep there.

Me: Yes it sure is.

Clerk: I fish off Rattlesnake all the time.

Me: Really.

Clerk: I think I caught about 150 bass this year on Winnipesaukee.

Me: (Now he has my attention)

He walked us over to a 5000 square foot section of racks and racks of lures and baits and gizmos and gadgets. He spends minutes looking for just the right item. The right size, the right color, it was wonderfully entertaining. I looked at the prices of various things near the items he was picking out for RG. He was not picking the expensive stuff, but he was being extremely generous with his experience.

He showed us a hook that would minimize the chance the bass would swallow the hook and it was designed to catch the lip to minimize risk to the fish for catch and release. He reported that he only had 2 of the 150 swallow the hook.

I shook his hand and thanked him for sharing his experience.

What a great store.

Bass Pro Shops is indeed an amazing store.... especially if you like the outdoors. I go there on a monthly basis. I always find an excuse. The Aquarium is un believable, and as RG points out they do public feedings. Now depending on who does the feeding it is quite entertaining, and infromative I really suggest it for the little kids. The fish are very active durring this as you might guess and it is a wonderful sight.

Now for me I get lost in the Camping, and boating supplies, and occasionally find myself in the fishing and Hunting areas. The Workers always seem to be knowledgable and are more then willing to help you out, or leave you alone......

I understand why they built there with the seasonal traffic from the stadium and all, but still can't understand why they wouldn't build here in NH. All the Maine and MA folk would flock here for the no taxes. Plus I would think we would have more traffic than a stadium. Dumb marketing plan IMHO......:( And you can that there is a Cabellas in Scarborough but I don't need to pay, what 8% slaes tax on boots! (BTW I got a nice pair of Chippewa's at 30% off.)

The Cabelas in Maine is in no way a representation of the other stores in the fleet, it is really just an oversized Dick's IMO. Check out the one in Hamburg, PA if you ever get the chance, 255,000 SF.

Cabelas was going to come to Hooksett, but I believe that opportunity has been blown.

The only Bass Pro I have been in was in Denver and it was really impressive.
Both stores seem to hire folks that have the knowledge to serve the customers, no matter what you are looking for.

Don't know if I told this story yet or not....But when we were in Orlando I wanted to go to the Bass Pro Shop. My Fiance, Kathy was very uninterested in going, but went for the ride. She wanted to wait in the car. Not interested in hunting, guns, camping etc... Well I managed to bring her in. Well, damned if I couldn't get her to leave the store. They were closing up and she was still in there trying on clothes. She was astounded at all the cool stuff they had in there for regular women's clothes. Geesh! Maybe now she will listen to me. Probably not though! :rolleye2:

The Basspro store in FL sells boats plus great electronics as well as the fishing stuff. They have a great women’s clothing department. They give fishing classes and demos to any groups that asks. They have been expanding throughout the country. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comhttp://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/ /><st1:City alt=Maybe NH</ST1:p will get lucky.
Try their online site. I have found things there that I wanted.
