It's Tom Dawson ( Lt. Dawson) who has been the acting chief the past few days. A good choice and a good guy

Thanks, that's great news!

What a coincidence - Alton just got a new Police Chief, too. The former Chief, Phil Smith, has taken the position of town manager for Atkinson. Police Capt. Ryan Heath has been appointed to the position of Police Chief for Alton.

Wishin' all of them the best! :)

I think it's great when a town or city can promote from within instead of searching all over the country like some towns around here.

Actually they did search far and wide-they just didn't tell anyone. The other 2finalists apparently were from Mass. and Maine.

I have not met Tom yet, but understand he is a good, talented replacement for Scott Kinmond.

I am also glad they hired from within the department.

It's kind of funny how they all just seem to switch around isn't it? Town Managers too.

What this town needs is a kinder, gentler, and smaller PD that embraces diversity, works with the community instead of against it, and avoids overreaction. If history is any indication, I do not expect any of that to happen under the new leadership.

Not that I'm against Tom, but I think your predictions are spot on here 2+2. :)

Great I thought this was a good thing from my past interactions with him through school related programs and some social events. What am I missing? I thought he would bring change. I too feel our police buget is very high and feel until we stop just voting it in and start questioning it will grow and grow.Of course I never see a cop when I would like to, speeders down the neck, passing illegally, and how about the 30 MPH zone from the North End through the Village . But darn there they are when you take a left without using your turn signal!:D
