Does anyone know why water continues to be released from the lake at a rate in excess of 1,300 cfs?

The level is down 6 inches from full lake. I hope we can at least hold these levels into September.

It is good to see the lake down to the current level. Most of the season, levels were in the top 5 years according to Bizer's chart (http://www.bizer.com/bztnews.htm#lakelevel), which caused significant erosion and turbid water. The clarity is already better since the water level went down. With hurricane season approaching (will Bill hit here?), it is important to have reserve capacity to hold 10" of rain, should that happen. It would be nice to have an answer why the discharge rate is still 1300+, but hopefully the Dam operators will also answer why they have left it so high this year.

Bizer's site still shows a positive deviation from normal for this date - so the operators must have decided to leave the discharge rate high until 'normal' is reached?

This time of the year, the risk of a tropical system in the New England area increases. I would guess they are doing the prudent thing and increasing the capacity to hold water from a tropical event, if one should come this way. Although it is rare that we get such a storm, they can happen, so they must be prepared.

As others have noted, the lake is high for this time of year.
