View Full Version : Poll for date of "Grant's Gathering"

Here's the promised poll ... For the moment let's assume a gathering on land, perhaps in Wolfboro @ Cate Pk (we'll know more when they get back to mcdude). Other activites (perhaps boating meet beforehand, imbibing afterwards, etc) are still open, TBD. Given this, can we decide on a date ? We've talked about 9/11 and 8/28 but I'm still uncertain if everyone will be around after Labor Day. So I've created a poll to collect some data. If you prefer one of these dates then please vote for it. If one of these dates is bad for you please vote for pre-Labor Day or post-Labor Day. If you can attend on any date and have no preference, then vote as such. I'm assuming everyone is busy the Labor Day weekend. If anyone has a better way to figure this out or to have a better poll - chime in !

Thanks very much for picking up the ball and running with it on this, Mee-n-Mac! You're doing a good service for the Forum's users!

21 out of the 30+ people have voted. Presently it's about even as to how many can't attend on either of the mentioned dates. C'mon stragglers, let us know what you want :D

FYI - On the other hand I had just posted the poll and then went back to correct a couple of typo's and when I was done a few minutes later, 3 people had already voted before me !

For me, the results are displayed at the top of the page whenever I view this thread. Perhaps it's scrolled off-screen for you ? I forget exactly how, but I was asked if I wanted to vote when I viewed the top post. Thereafter the results display auto-magically. From the Site FAQ :

Voting in and viewing a poll
To vote in a poll, simply select which option you want to vote for, and click the [Vote!] button. You may view the current results for a poll before you vote by clicking the 'View Results' link. Voting in a poll is entirely optional. You may vote for any of the available options, or cast no vote at all.

Generally, once you have voted in a poll, you will not be able to change your vote later, so place your vote carefully!

Seems that of those having a preference, Sat 9/11/04 is the day. Seems that having it then leaves out the least amount of people or does anyone have another way to interpret the data ? So unless there's some disagreement can I propose the above as the day ?

Next is the place and for now I guess we're waiting to hear back from Wolfeboro re: Cate Park. What I'm thinking is to meet, perhaps at the park, sometime in the afternoon. From there people can mill about and of course afterwards there's bars, shops, food and bars about town for those who care to congregate afterward. Whether it be Cate Park, or someplace else, I agree with others who've suggested that some type of activity to center people around would be nice. So let's start thinking about this. I have 3 ideas to stir the pot.

1) Anyone who want's to, bring their fav Photopost pictures (yes you must own it/them, no fair stealing from IG, RG, LG, KBG, dcr, mcdude, trfour, ddemers, etc, etc). We could an exhibit and/or contest of some sort.

2) A raffle has been suggested. Maybe raffling off some the above ?

3) I think it might be fun to give everyone a number to wear. After 1 hour people have to match the # to the Forum Name. Some sort of rules and prizes TBD.

Also a pre-meet meet is still open. Right now I thinking Garwoods some Sat afternoon (not sure about this weekend, I have to check with the boss) for a coupla beers. I'll buy 1 round :D for those (? Grant + ??? :( ) who can't make the 9/11 date.

I think something to show our appreciation to the webmaster would be good. In all my time here I never remember him asking for money or overtly shilling his advertisers. Obviously he makes a few bucks selling ads but given the time and cost of running this site and the webcam, I doubt he's getting rich.

Cash is always good, but perhaps someone could think of a more classy token of our appreciation. Of course if we're going down this road, the webmaster has to promise no to peek.

I'm diggin' the raffle idea and especially the # match to screen name idea - this is excellent. Maybe we could even give the people a hint, so it helps to make the game more fun - maybe we wear a number and our avatar??? Just a thought.

Coming up with something for Don (webmaster) is a really good idea as well. Does anyone know things that he likes, hobbies, pastimes, anything that could give us areas in which we could think of ideas???? Good thinking !! I have no idea as what might be appropriate. Hmmm ... perhaps a big club to whack the ....... naaah ;)

Well....if you wear your avatar wouldn't forum people pretty much know who you are?? http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/image.php?u=20&dateline=1081337521
.......HELLO!!!!! :rolleye2:
I say skip the 'guess who you are contest'....how would you talk to people for an hour and not give yourself away?? But avatars instead of nametags sounds good.

Since it is 9/11 may I suggest that we pay our respects in some small way at our gathering?

Someone else has suggested to me that Horse Shoes would be fun. Right. :look: Let's dig horse shoe pits in Cate Park!!! (Photos of arrests in the Citizen on 9/12)

Thanks to everyone who 'stepped up to the plate' and helped pull this together.

mcdude - you're absolutely right - there are some 'very' distinct avatars that will be definite give aways (yours for instance - it kills me the little dancing dude - gotta love it). Thought guessing the avatar would be a fun way to meet / speak with people (or on the other hand - possibly avoid some).

Thoughts on paying our respects for those who gave their lives on 9/11: 1) each person light a candle (I could supply the candles); 2) moment of silence; 3) (possibly a bit controversial) but pledge of allegiance; 4) if there are any fire fighters or law enforcement personnel in the forum gathering possibly they may wish to say a few words..... just some thoughts. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_12_6.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001)

But seriously I should have left a message w/the hostess that anyone looking for Winni.com people should proceed to the bar (now Rob tells me ;) ). In any case I arrived about 2:10 and was there for a while. I'm guessing I should have said something to the woman in a yellow shirt with a camera case but usually when I say something to an unknown female in a bar, well let's just say I've learned that lesson :D In any case Rob stopped by for a bit and perhaps if "we all" do this some other day (not the "big day") some others can swing by. Next time I'll have a Moose and Loon shirt made up for the occasion* :coolsm:

ps - * yes that'll ruin some portion of match the person to the forum name/avatar for some people but what do you want, free beer or a perfect score :D

Oh oh, I guess I should tell the brick and mortar people to lay off the BBQ firepit ;) Have you heard back from the Wolfeboro people yet vis-a-vis Cate Pk ?

This Sat, 2-4pm, Garwoods. Be there

Ugh! I was up there for ten days, and just came home yesterday, and didn't see this post -- could've/would've gladly made it. I am heading back up for another ten days this Friday (8/6) if you think you could handle a second beer. :D

Anyway -- did you see/meet anyone? While I was up there, Senter Cove Guy and I had a nice dive in Murky, er, I mean Melvin Bay.

I refuse to wear a 7mm wetsuit into Garwoods, or anywhere else on land. If I did, you could find me on South Main Street in the Wolfeboro PD holding cell. Perhaps a Dive Winni cap...

You should have said something Mee-n-Mac! That was me. I went in twice. First time I asked the hostess about a Winnipesaukee.com meeting. She knew nothing about it and told me to take a look around. I felt a little strange going up to someone in a bar. A short time later I went back and asked her about Grant’s gathering. I was hoping to meet you and Rob. Oh, well. Next time.

Looks like we have 2 threads talking about (some of) the same thing(s). The answer to the Wolfeboro question asked above by Mee-n-Mac r.e. the vis a vis Cate Park is found On the other thread. We are talking about "time" at this point. Let's see we have done who, where and when....now how about the "what" exactly will we do? From very-nonstructured...to.....??????

Sorry we missed you RG. When I came in, I specifically mentioned the Winnipesaukee.com group to the hostess, and she said that she would send anyone else who came in my way. There might have been more than one hostess, I suppose. (I did cruise by your house on the way home and wave to the people on your dock.)

I had never been to Garwoods before, it's a neat little place. After I woke Mee-n-Mac up, we had a nice time. :)

On the way home, I gave a tow to someone whose steering had failed.

Speaking of doing nice things for people, there had been some discussion earlier about using the gathering as a charity fund raiser, and/or getting something for our webmaster. It had ocurred to me that we might consider taking up a small collection and then using the proceeds to make a donation to a local charity in the name of the Winnipesaukee.com website. Any thoughts?

Rob

I posted the other thread because I was worried that this one was getting to long and split to be followed by everyone. So let's talk about the what over "there". I'll add the previously suggested what's to that thread as well.
