You can go to Captain Barts in Moultonboro. He is located on Route 109 right before the 109/171 fork on the left hand side. He has great lobsters for a decent prices. They are always fresh.
From Wolfeboro that would be on the right hand side after the 109/171 fork. :-)

You can get fresh lobsters at both markets in town, the wolfetrap in back bay also sells fresh lobsters. There is even a guy who will bring them to the islands by boat on Fridays and Saturdays. Captn. Bards is great but you have to catch him when he is open and becuase he is popular he may run out of Lobsters. Have fun and don't forget the butter!

If you call Capt Bart's and leave a message on the answering machine, he will reserve and guarantee the lobsters for you to pick-up. Depending on how many lobsters you are looking for, I would leave a message if the order were over a dozen. He has both hard and new shell lobsters. They are open Wednesday-Sunday. He usually has plenty of lobsters for the weekend this time of year.
Hunter's is just east of the Post Office downtown, and just west of the Sunoco gas station. :look:

Glad to hear that Bart's is reputable. We drive by there all the time and have thought about stopping by. We were a little nervous since it's on the "side of the road"....maybe we'll give it a shot this weekend. Lobsters are sounding yummy right about now! :liplick:
I just heard someone got the lobster rolls at Harvest Market and they were delicious. $9.99. One day a week I think it is Fri. , they are 8.99.

We get them from either Hunters or Harvest Market. We've bought other things from Capt Barts, but the lobster right in town is excellent.
A bit of a haul, but Market Basket in Tilton has them on sale this week for 3.99 a pound , I have not seen them that cheap in quite some time. Might be worth the trip if you plan on buying quantity.

Bart's is one place where you can't judge a book by its cover, you should check it out. Bart or one of the people that work there run over to the coast daily for their seafood.
Now I'm in the mood for lobbies and steamers!

We had company last weekend, and they wanted "Lobsters and Steamers," so we went to Capt Bart's. They were AWESOME! (as usual) My guests said they were the best they have had in years. We also fed them some Crabbie Cakes and Stuffed Clams....Now we can't get them to go back home! LOL..Capt Bart's is the BEST! You can never go wrong stopping there!

Twice this weekend, a boat went by Rattlesnake Island selling lobsters. No sign telling the price and since we already had some, I did not hail them over. Anyone know any of the details about them?

I hailed them last weekend and they gave me a card. They said they had $7.99 a pound lobsters and they are usually cruising the lake on Saturday's Now for the life of me I don't know where I put the card with the number on it.
Side note, the Ice Cream Boat has been by a bunch of times lately. We stopped him so my kids could get Ice-Cream. He pulled right up to the dock a few nights in a row. My kids were psyched!!!

Ok, I give up... Tried everything I can think of to get the phone # for this illusive Capt Bart fella... Anyone have it? Not listed in the yellow pages, the internet or 411 and I'm not at the lake during the week to drive over there.
Help anyone...

i live in the fishing port of galilee in ri, and have held my commercial licenses and permits for around 20 years - we love it when people ask if the live lobsters hanging off the pier in the keeper car are fresh!! :D
ps --- when lobsters die in the tank, whether on the boat or in the store 9 out of 10 times they are broken in half and given a wiff - if there is no smell (freshly dead) they go into a pot right away and become lobsta meat!
also this might be helpful for some of you - when you buy live lobsters bring them home on ice in a cooler and then place them in the crisper of your refrigerator (no ice needed) - they will actually stay for days like this as long as they are kept cool - just do not let the ice melt in a cooler and have them be submerged in the water, this will kill them fast - a very close family member once asked me for some lobsters so that she could entertain some friends - i gave her 10 packed in a cooler over ice for the evenings festivity, she felt bad for them so she placed them in a tub of water --- oops :D

At the end of 28 where it meets Rte 16 in Ossipee, there is a fish store/restaurant that has lobsters. Bought lobster meat the other day at $24/lb and it was great. Also, seems to be the same distance (or shorter?) than Captain Barts, easier travel from downtown Wolfeboro in my opinion.
Hours are more predictable as well.
Try them!

We went to Bart's this weekend and got some great 1.5- 2 pound hardshells along with some steamers- they were awesome! I think they were 7.99 for the hardshells and 6.49 for the soft.

Oh, we love the ice cream boat, but haven't seen it in years. I guess it doesn't come down into Alton Bay anymore. <<sigh>>
It was around when I was a kid and then disappeared, but reappeared for my boys. Greatest idea ever.

The local markets in Wolfeboro have had several lobster sales this summer. Most recently, we got them at Harvest Market for $4.49 per pound, which is just an insane price. Hunter's has had some good sales, too. Bart's is always competitive, and Heath's usually has a truck-load sale.
Hard to believe we've seen such insanely low lobster prices, given the current plight of the lobstermen.
Support them or lose them!

You are right about that Grant. Stew Leonard's a CT based supermarket is advertising Lobster 1 -1 1/4 lb. sizes for $3.99 per pound. Insane!
