About a week ago I saw what appeared to be a classic Laker craft from the 20s - 30s heading up the bay. Nothing unusual in that by itself. However as it passed my dock I didn't hear the usual basso profundo from the exhaust pipes, instead it sounded like a new I/O (gear whine). My neighbor tells me that "they" make new fiberglass boats that are copies of those classic Lakers. I've not seen nor heard of such. How about you ? Just curious ....

I know Hacker-Craft is making reproductions and some other people (Aristocraft comes to mind) are doing the same. Quite a few are using the West Epoxy system, so you get the best of both worlds, wood and a durable finish.

Don't know about IO versus inboard though. Most of the ones that I've seen have through-hull exhaust.

I know of one Hackercraft that this past year had its exhaust system enlarged from 3" to 4" I think that this will make a difference in sound the boat puts out. and while they have fiberglass wanna be classic boats and they look nice they do not in my opinion ride like the classics do. Hackercraft makes wooden ones that are replicas of the older ones, such as the one with 4" exhaust that have 454's in them a couple even have twin screws. Gets you twice while at the fuel pumps.

Check the web page below for a current Hacker for sale. It might be the one you saw.

Not a bad price at all. The one I saw at Harpers was around $80K (32' or so).
May have to go done to Silver Sands and check that one out. BTW, 454 Crusader inboard, must have through hulls as well.
