As the summer season approaches, what kind of things are you planning on doing? As I work on the calendar I see that The Lakes Region has much to offer.
See post #23 for updated 2010 links!
I must have missed something, what are you planning on doing this summer in the Lakes Region?

What are you planning on doing this summer in the Lakes Region?
Sit on the back deck, watch the boats, and read the FORUM!
All kidding aside, thanks for all the links. They're going to end up helping someone, I'm sure.

Thank you for that great list of things to do and places to go! I bet that was a lot of work and I really appreciate all this info to go on! :D
Here's a few happenings in my little town:
June 6 - Town-wide yard sale - get your maps at the Town Hall or at the Parks & Recs. Dept Office on Main Street
June 27 - Touch-A-Truck at the Bay - bring the kids to check out the fire engines, town trucks, police cars, etc. It's free and the kids love it.
June 28 - Canoe & Kayak Race - CLICK HERE (p://www.alton.nh.gov/CalendarDetail.asp?ID=1424) for more info.
July 3 - East Bay Jazz Concert & Fireworks at Alton Bay
Aug 8 - Old Home Day (Alton)
Every Sat., starting in July, there is a FREE concert scheduled at Alton Bay. The last Sat. of these concerts is 8/29.

Can't stand the continued high heat, haze and humidity, the dreaded 3-H's of the summer? Take a scenic 45 minute drive up to Waterville Valley, Route 93- exit 28, and go ice skating on their gigundic, super-duper Olympic size and quality ice surface of the Waterville Valley Ice Arena. Totally inside and enclosed, home to the Magic Blades Figure Skating Club, and Plymouth State University Panthers ice hockey team and ice hockey camp. Heated, air conditioned, Muzaked and Zambonied; it's just like walking into a huge 45 degree refrigerator. Some go there just to chill out and watch the show. For non-skaters, young and adult, they have two sizes of elderly, walker-style supporters that glide along on the ice in front of you, sort of like training wheels on ice just for the non-skater looking to get a start.
Plus it is all very inexpensive to skate or rent skates there thanks to the Town of Waterville Valley and their rich residential property base/bank. Live free or die!

Other WV summer ideas: bicycle rentals, kayak rentals for families in Corcoran's Pond, 9-hole WV golf course, 18 red clay tennis courts, athletic club with indoor & outdoor heated pools, restaurants, hiking 4500' Mt Osceola .
WV is becoming a go-to spot for bicyclers, both mountain bike and touring: two different bicycle venues, side by side, at WV.

Hey RG,
What a great list! I am sure it took a lot of time, but it will definately help so many people, tourists, part-times and residents.
I deeply appreciate all that you do to make our part of the world a better place!
I can only add two things.
1) going to the Laconia Airport after the Nascar races in June and September and seeing the drivers up close and for free. Great jets as well.
2) the remote controlled sailboat races on Lily Pond near the Laconia airport on Saturday mornings. Another great freeby!

What a great thread this is! I just returned from my yearly Las Vegas trip with my mom and it is now time to think about my yearly Weirs Beach trip. I have to admit, I love the lake area more than I love Las Vegas.
I am definitely going to look into some of these things to do. One thing on my list is to go to Castle in the Clouds. I have been meaning to go for the last couple of years, but just have not made it there yet.
This is great RG - as others have noted, a lot of hard work went into this list! Thank you for putting it together.
The only thing I can think to add is the moving wall - which will be in Newmarket this weekend and Wolfeboro in September.
thanks again!

It is my pleasure to share these ideas with my Forum family. :D
Does anyone know the name of the go-cart place near Weirs Beach? I noticed when we went by the other day that they now have water bumper boats! Looks like lots of fun!

I think that go-kart place is Logs of Fun and Daytona Fun Parks (http://www.logs-of-fun.com)
My plan is to spend as much time as possible chilling in the hammock with sunshine and a nice lake breeze, as much as the summer allows.

Wow! What a nice idea. And that really is quite the list.
If I may add one thing...
If you are a bit of a thrill seeker, and don't mind taking a drive up to Lincoln, try the Zip Line. Quite the rush. A bit pricey, at $85, but as a one time thing it is probably worth it. Don't go on a weekend without a reservation. They are almost always sold out on Saturdays and Sundays.

Not just for the summer months!
We visited Red Cranberries yesterday for the 1st time and discoverered a great shoppe. Nicely laid out and with what I felt were very good prices and a nice mix of antique and collectable items. They even have many of McDudes collectable framed post cards from around the Lakes Region to choose from!
So before the boat goes in, the cottage is opened or even after that visit Red Cranberries in Alton and some of the other wonderful businesses around the lake.

"Learn to dive with United Divers of NH, Dive Winnipesaukee or Fathom Divers."
Thanks for the props for the scuba community but I have to point out a couple things. United Divers is a Dive Club out of Manchester and not a shop for services. Fathom Divers went out of business last fall as did Aquanuts Scuba in Concord. How ever, staff from both of those shops (including me) have teamed with Howie Richards of Production Trailer and Dock in Meredith who has opened Central NH Divers (a full serivice dive shop) at his facility. CNHD is working closely with DW as well to allow a mutually satisfying situation to open the world of scuba to all the folks around the Lakes Region and beyond.
Stop by and check out the new showroom and chat up the folks. As spring creeps near things will be heating up and you can be sure to hear more from CNHD including class information and other great adventures.

Thanks for the information scubajay1153. Looks like it's time to update last year's list. Too bad about those businesses failing. :(
Best of luck to Central NH Divers (http://www.productiontraileranddock.com/)!
(I've added them under the category of Sports in the Lake Links (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/links/index.php).)

Smith Candies of Alton (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Alton-NH/Smith-Candies-of-Alton/114199451927297?v=wall) has ice cream too! In the past, it's been local home made Bobby-Sue's (http://www.bobbysueshomemadeicecream.com/) of Freedom.

I highly recommend the Pemi-Baker tubing adventure down the river. We went last year and it was a blast. We went on a day after it had rained heavily so the river was high and fast moving. Lots of leisurely fun just floating along......

My son and his newlywed wife will be at the lake with me for two weeks this summer, and a few activities we plan that all should enjoy include:
hiking Mt. Major;
Cog Railway / outlets at North Conway;
catching a show at Meadowbrook;
a cruise on the Mount.

Great list. Thanks for putting it together. I've done so many things over the years. It makes you realize just how special NH is. WE have it all. I would also recommend a tube or kayak trip down the Saco. There are a couple of places in Conway and Bartlett (we like the best) that will rent them to you, drop you off and pick you up later down the river. Lots of fun. :D

Brettonwoods also has a great one now that takes 3 and a half hours, part hiking and riding.
