Just a short half mile from Route 93 - exit 25, just beyond the Irving & Mobil gas, the site work has started for the new Plymouth State University ice arena. Scheduled to open summer 2010, and seat 850 spectators, it's the home ice for the Plymouth State Pink Panthers hockey team. Actually, they are just the Panthers, and have black or dark blue uniforms. It will be interesting to see how much 16.4-mil can build when done by state contracted construction when you consider there's a single residence for sale on one Governor's Island prominent point for 16 million, but that's another story.

What was in the space before was mostly a parking lot and small maintenance building. Plymouth State....on the move....it shoots.....it scores! Recession.....what recession.....not for PSU....at least?

There's no doubt that Plymouth has undergone a serious make-over in the last two years what with the new Route 3, scenic traffic round-about, new Captain Douglas DiCenzo Memorial Bridge, and now the P.S.U. ice arena, all closely abutting along a straight 1/4 mile of Route 175-A on the Holderness-Plymouth border.

The DiCenzo Bridge, which carries Rt 175-A across the Pemigewasett River to the round-about, has two sidewalks which get a lot of student use and blends real well with the river, road & surrounds.

Big yellow machines, and a large pile driver are just getting started on what used to be a 30(?)-acre section of a farm field, near the river.

Good news FLL, I always loved playing hockey as a kid, even after a broken tailbone, more power to'em!
Anything to keep the blood flowing, and weight off is good....figure skating.

And it will give the local youth programs a place to play besides the outdoor rink at the Holderness School. I understand the nostalgia of playing outdoors but that place can be brutal.
