Hey Forum,
Just wanted to let you know that the Special Olympics of NH is hosting the FIRST ANNUAL "Winni-Dip" launching from the Meredith Town Docks on Sunday 3/8/09.
There will be a dippers parade (St. Patty's Day is the theme) starting from Church Landing at 11:15 (Don't forget to turn your clocks ahead tonight or you'll miss it).
Dippers will then shuttle in groups to their icy journey into Bay Point on Winnepesaukee starting at Noon.
If you're interested in sponsoring a brave dipper (myself), you can make a tax deductible donation at
www.firstgiving.com/kellydobens
It's a very worthy cause, and if you have a dollar or two to spare, there is no such thing as a donation that's too small!
If you're brave enough to join us, visit www.sonh.org/winnidip

CHILLING OUT FOR THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS IN MEREDITH
Hundreds of spectators lined the town docks in Meredith Sunday afternoon to watch almost 60 people jump into Lake Winnipesaukee for the Winni Dip, a new fundraiser to benefit the Special Olympics.
State Attorney General Kelly Ayotte led the plunge Sunday with a group of participants clad in green St. Patrick's Day attire. Over a dozen public safety departments participated as well, including Tilton Police Chief Robert Cormier, the police chiefs of Dover, Nashua and Woodstock, Moultonborough and Meredith officers as well as officials from the State Liquor Commission, Belknap County Attorney's office and Merrimack and Belknap County Sheriff's departments.
The water was a chilly 33 degrees, but officials said that was five degrees warmer than the Atlantic Ocean was during the Penguin Plunge in February in Hampton. The air was a much more comfortable 47 degrees and the sun decided to poke its head out just in time for the dip to begin.

OK, a couple notes here. First, great cause and hats off for those who raised money. Second, I find it hard to believe that the ocean temp at Hampton was 28 degrees according to the article. And lastly, if I knew the participants were dressed like what is in the photo, I would have made my way down to watch.

Hmmm... The link to the article doesn't work. I wonder if the woman pictured didn't like her bikini-clad body being front page fodder. I see no reason for her to be ashamed. :D

very interesting. That article has mysteriously disappeared from the Citizen. It did mention that the bikini clad woman was Miss Hampton Beach. I think her name is Shirley.
