I've been disappointed that Meadowbrook has primarily become a venue for country and western acts....must be in response to what sells tickets in the area. However, just announced for this summer, JACKSON BROWNE!! This is quite a coup to get such a high calibre act (IMHO). Here are some of the other acts lined up so far.

All I was looking at were the concert dates. To my eye, 7 out of 25 are C&W or about 28%.

Reminds me of taking Statistics in college, when the Professor introduced himself (don't remember his name, only his next line) and said "Welcome to Stats 101; this is where you'll learn to tell your side of the lie!"

When Meadowbrook gets their full lineup of dates, it will be interesting to see what the make up of music is then.

Did you know that 70% of all statistics are made up on the spot. That being said, I do think Meadowbrook could spice up the selection at the venue. There are a lot of really good bands that are not main stream, are really good, and that would also draw good crowds. Maybe some mainstream jazz as well. Or bands such as Arcade Fire, Cat Power, or something like Flogging Molly. It doesn't always have to be country, or some old time rocker with his walker.

I would. I do appreciate the advantage of not paying to travel to a city or distant venue to see a good act. The cost really isn't that much more than they charge for some of these has been bands that are an AM radio version of a concert.

Exactly, I would pay premium rates to see that kind of quality.

Most modern country acts sound like Jackson Browne anyway these days:) In fact most of these country acts that come to Meadowbrook sound like a combo of the Eagles and Bob Seger. Current country for the most part is like R&R with a little twang & steel guitar thrown in.

I would swim from Tuftonboro to see Buddy Guy at Meadowbrook.

What about some electric (or acoustic) Hot Tuna? Ratdog?

Dylan was there two years ago, as was Neil Young. Good stuff.

There are only 7/25...I guess that my eyes glazed over :-)

The latest schedule is 80% C&W and 90% boring. :-)

Jetro Tull was great last year. Let's get more acts like that. I think that the big issue is that most folks are not inclined to buy seasons tickets unless they like the majority of acts. I don't know how C&W oriented the lake is; not my thing.

Personally, I just pick and choose. It is cheaper to buy broker seats (great seats) to select performances than consider a season pass.

Seriously, I will be interested in the balance of the schedule. Hopefully, they can bring in some great performers.

As a subscriber, each week i get first dibbs on tickets for next year.Yesterday when i got the invite for Jackson Browne, the first thought that entered my mind after reading the following:
"On 1996's Looking East, he addresses various aspects of personal growth and social struggle, and their interconnectedness in the world around him."

First thoughts were " he addresses various aspects of personal growth"

Oh really. And did that growth include some eduation or reflection on his history of being abusive to women. ???
His first wife committed suicide and his relationship with Darrell Hannah ended because of him regularly beating her up .
I am a musican and I do follow this stuff. I actually do like a half dozen of his songs and I enjoy playing them for a small crowd.I simply will not go ,knowing that in a small way,I am supporting him. I don't know if he has learned anything from his past actions.i don't know if he still beats "his woman" .But simply to ask the question scares the hell out of me.

I like a lot of his music. He's a very talented guy, but respecting him as a human being.....not so much. I once seen an interview where the person thanked him for writing/singing such spiritual music & Brown just tore the poor guy up. I mean he ripped him apart with sadistic pleasure. I knew then that this is one nasty individual.

I agree with this quote and with UpTheSaukee that it's more like 30% country

I would also say most of these acts are "modern" Country, not "Western"....

( I like this modern country music and the pop-country) :)

I just saw the summer line up and I think it's pretty good. I see Lynard Skynard in coming in June. I saw them with the Doobie Brothers in Hartford, CT a couple of years ago and thought it was a fantastic concert. Too loud, but a great show.
I guess I am getting old and can't take the noise.

What, generally speaking, are the ticket prices for Meadowbrook? I have never been there.
thanks

Meadowbrook does schedule a lot of different groups but they schedule what the concert goers are willing to pay for and want. They sell out or close to it almost every time so they are doing something right.

The Sugarland concert is a make up from last year and Meadowbrook has been nominated for a CMA (Country Music Award) this year so Counrty is here to stay.

All music does play an important part but it seems to me (IMHO) that country music has gained in popularity because a lot of it is cross over and played on other than all country stations.

For me growing up with live music being played at my home, cottage and friend homes plus being a long ago DJ I like most music. I did say most though. :D

I too wasa thinking they would do well if they had a Jazz Festival up here. Like a weekend thing. Like the Newport Jazz festival, just a bit smaller...
Might bring in some good revenue. I also liked the Folk Festival that was up in Bangor for a few years. Tons of people and it brought in a lot of money to Bangor.
Just my opinion though!:D

I don't see where Meadowbrook is primarily country and western.

From the Gilford Steamer:

Meadowbrook nominated
for ACM Venue of the Year
BY DANIELLE DELISLE
DDELISLE@SALMONPRESS.COM
The Meadowbrook US Cellular Pavilion has been nominated a second time for the Academy of Country Music’s Venue of the Year award. “Several of the bigger artists who played here said they were pulling for us,” said Chris Lockwood, director of marketing for Meadowbrook. Venues are ominated on the events they host the previous year. Meadowbrook was nominated for their 2008 season, which included Brooks & Dunn, Charlie Daniels, Martina McBride, LeAnn Rimes, Travis Tritt, Reba McEntire and many others. One of the requirements for the nomination is that the venue has hosted at least six country music acts in one year. Meadowbrook was also nominated in 2007 for their 2006 season. Each member of the Academy, which is made up of 4,000 industry professionals, nominates a venue. Venues receiving more than five votes are put on a list and distributed to the members of the Academy, who each cast one vote on the list. The five venues with the most votes become the nominees. A final vote is taken and the venue with the most votes receives the prize. “You know looking around New England we are probably the only venue that would be up for this award,” said Lockwood. “We have a large base of country music fans that support us. We still did very well even with the economy. We are exceptionally proud because this all started as Bob Harding’s vision. There are huge venues that are owned by big companies across the country, and here is a local guy from New Hampshire who had a vision. He made one of the five best country music venues in the country. We are like the ultimate underdog.” Meadowbrook started as a tract of farm land. Bob Harding bought the land and in 1996 the pavilion held 2500 people and included lawn seats. In 2009 the venue can hold 3,000 people and hosts vendors from all over New England. There is also a second stage to host opening acts before the main stage opens. The other four nominees for Venue of the Year are DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Mich., The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., The Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek in Raleigh, N.C., and the Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheatre in Virginia Beach, Va. The awards ceremony will take place in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden on Sunday,April 5, at 8 p.m. on CBS.

We go to a half dozen shows a year. Some do not sell very well. They've given tickets away for some of the shows. I've received free ticket offers every summer for at least the last 3-4 years.

I'd like to see some of the old favorites return that we've seen over the past couple of years like Chicago, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Allman Brothers.

It'd be great if they could book Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes up there. They play the Casino every summer and sell it out. Meadowbrook may be a bit too big a venue for them to play alone though.

Why see the pretenders when you could have seen the real thing?

John Fogarty was at Meadowbrook last summer. His show was fabulous. He played all his great CCR hits, many of his own, and his voice has not lost a tone in all these years.

Two of my children who weren't sure who he was went with us. They loved it. Every new song he played was greated with a delighted, "Oh, I know this one!"

The part that was disappointing was that the place was only 2/3rds full.

The demographics you're talking about are on the Wolfeboro side of the lake. We have jazz over here all the time.

They've just released the schedule for the GREAT WATERS MUSIC FESTIVAL (http://www.greatwaters.org/) right on the lake on the grounds of Brewster Academy. they usually have at least one really good jazz act.....but I don't see it this year!

From the website
Since 1995, the Festival has grown from 325 attendees of one classical performance to the present audience of well over 7,000, enjoying eight different programs and two educational offerings. Great Waters Music Festival has consistently attracted regional and national artists to New Hampshire. Celebrity stars Wynton Marsalis, Dave Brubeck, Ronan Tynan, Richie Havens, Canadian Brass, Sandy Duncan, Arlo Guthrie, Peter Nero, Natalie MacMaster, Chuck Mangione, Betty Buckley, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Lucie Arnaz, Suzanne Ishee, Mark Hardy, Judy Collins, Lee Bryant, Nanci Griffith and Judy Gibson have all delighted sold-out audiences comprised of permanent and seasonal New Hampshire residents, vacationers, visitors and regional musicians of all ethnic and age groups.

My first time over there will be the Moody Blues in August. My gf is dragging me kicking and screaming to see Bob Dylan/John Melancamp and somebody by the name of Willie Nelson. Not really my thing, and five hours is more than plenty for me.

Hey, I saw Elton John last summer over here and he played great for 3 1/2 hours straight. Great job. We should both be thankful you have such a great location and venue.

Yup, both are country................. sorry! :rolleye1: Hubby got me tix to Alan Jackson for my (recent) b'day -- I didn't even care that I have to wait 4 months and 5 days to use my present, lol!

TY for the lineup -- I didn't realize Staind and Shinedown are going to be there -- not exactly the same genre as Alan but my 13-year old loves them both -- and they don't make me shudder, myself, so guess I'm looking into tix for that event..............:rolleye2:

Not bashing C&W or the Rock line-up, but there are no acts here that compete with the likes of ZZ-Top (Touring with Aerosmith) and Jethro Tull....

They have a pretty darn good lineup considering the location of the venue. I'd sure love to see ZZ and Aerosmith myself. One thing I've found over the years, as I'm not a country fan, is that concerts are different. Just being there and getting out is most of the fun. Heck, I even have some Brad Paisley songs in my itunes list. Love Ticks :D

On another note. The folks at Meadowbrook seem to be first class. I ordered my tickets for the Moody Blues online. I wasn't very careful on a couple of things. The very next day, I got a call from them wanting to kjnow if I really meant to buy four dinner tickets when I had purchased just two concert tickets. I goofed! They credited me in full that day and ran it through at the corrected price. The woman that called me also gave me a little help finding area lodging, since a triathalon is scheduled that weekend and everything is booked.

Another plug. The people at the Naswa gave me a lot of help deciding on lodging, even asking me if I called such and such a place.

All in all, a great experience. Looking forward to a weekend getaway.

Bigger acts mean more $$$ and that means higher ticket prices. I think it's a good lineup this year but nothing I'm too wild about myself only because I've seen some of the acts on the list at sometime or another because they tour regularly. We don't go out much because we have to hire a sitter so when we do it's usually for a concert.

I have been very pleased with some of the acts that Meadowbrook has brought into the area. Someone in an earlier post said it well when they mentioned that they might bring their young 'uns to Meadowbook - it is a place you can bring your children, of course depending on the act, but I've seen families sitting on the lawn to enjoy the show. My oldest son loves classic rock and I look forward to taking him to his first concert someday. Hopefully it will be at Meadowbrook! :)

My only question is...

What, no Garrison Keillor this year? (I'm a PHC junkie!) :D
