There is a meeting this evening in Tilton for the expansion of the Walmart store at Exit 20. I suspect this expansion is for putting in a Super Walmart foodstore, else why expand it ? Does anyone know if they are talking about expanding the store on the current foorprint, or building a new store on another site at Exit 20 ?

The story as of a couple years ago was to remodel the existing Wal-Mart into a Sam's Club, and build a new Super Wal-Mart about one mile away on Route 140, just beyond HK Motorsports and McDonald's.

Wal-Mart seems to prefer stand-alone stores that are not attached to a shopping mall. And, there's a BJ's Wholesale Club nearby on Route 3, Tilton, behind the VIP Auto.

It can take five years of local planning board manuevers before a Wal-Mart gets built.

It must be for an expansion, I would think the store is too big and heavy to move it like a house.

Umm, no kidding. To make it clear to you there was talk of putting a "new" Super Walmart on the old Keystone gas site across from Mickey D's hence the use of "current footprint". Anyway.....I went back to my first post and made that clear so there will be no misunderstanding.

Is there enough room there? The railroad tracks go right past there. And a Super Walmart would make that intersection traffic light even longer, sometimes I fall asleep waiting to make a left!

I also think that site is too small. I heard several years ago that the Super Walmart was going in at Keystone & a Sam's Club was going to take over the old Walmart store ? Plans change of course, so perhaps just a Super Walmart at the current location.

Thanks SteveA. Looks like they want to add on to the back of the store.

Yes, that's what I remember. The new Walmart was going to be somewhere on 140.
