So assuming we have ice and the Alton WinterFest is held, is this the year for the Winni Forum Flyer to make it's debut ? Count me a 1 musher. Next ....

T- about 35 days ...

Mac,

Glad someone brought up this subject. I was about to email DRH to find out if the Forum Flyer is still in its undisclosed location. Have they definitely scheduled the Winter Carnival? Upthesaukee is usually the guru on that subject.

Here's a link to the Parks & Rec Website calendar for Feb.

Winter Festival is on Feb 15th, 1 - 3 PM.

http://alton.nh.gov/CalendarDetail.asp?ID=2685

Upthesaukee is no longer on the Parks & Rec commission, so I just have to look at the Calendar and read the Baysider:look:. Hope all is well down in NJ, GH.

I note the calendar says ice bowling. Is this like the drinking game but where the Scorpian Bowls are made from ice ?

Mac,

Glad someone brought up this subject. I was about to email DRH to find out if the Forum Flyer is still in its undisclosed location. Yes, the Forum Flyer is still here in storage. I'll be glad to dig it out if someone would like to pick it up and enter it in the bed race.

Only for you, Mac...Only for you.

All you need is a smooth part of ice, some soda bottles filled with water (colored water is even better), which are then frozen and they become the pins. Then take gallon milk jugs, fill them with water and freeze them, and they become the bowling "balls".

Kids then hold the "ball" by the handle and slide the ball into the pins.

You, on the other hand, would take the scorpion bowl, chug-a-lug it down, slide it on the ice from the end of the bay to your place, refill it and reverse course. This process would be repeated until Mee observed you striking out of money for more scorpion bowls, at which she would drag you into the house, sparing you any further misery. :D

Sounds good. Just one small detail.

Mee wants to race too.

OK People we need 2 more mushers and a rider ! Or maybe 3 more mushers. DRH and crew put all that time into race preping the WFF, I say it's time to let that terror loose on the ice !

I'll buy the post-race Scorpian Bowls at the JP China for those who race.

Ok, call me a newbie but can somebody tell me what the Winni Forum Flyer is ? And why do I feel like slumber interruptis would occur if said flyer is mobilized.

For all the newbies, the Forum Flyer is a modified crib (childhood bed of our own Sunset Bob) which has been transformed into a high-speed  racing buggy. One of the featured attractions at the annual Alton Bay Winter Carnival is a bed race on Sunday afternoon. Several years back the Forum Flyer was prepped, but the carnival was cancelled due to dangerous ice conditions. We had a musher team lined up and Pepper was the designated passenger. The team consists of 4 mushers and 1 rider, no cleats allowed.

Maybe this year we can finally take the Flyer out of its hidden location and represent the Forum at the carnival.

It all started in this thread (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2775&highlight=flyer)... Sidelined by global warming, it's time to take up the challenge. It seems that while the infamous ABCCC team is no longer the farce, errr force, they used to be there are other pretenders, errr contenders, for the throne.

Thanks for the info GH. It sounds like a lot of fun. As a matter of fact the wifey thinks we should enter our marital bed as it's already used to frigid temps and Iam such a light weight........hold on I think I need clarification. :(

Times running out.

I really wish I could be a Musher but the old bones will not allow it and at 300lbs I don't think you would want me as a rider. But I will be there rooting you on. Go Flyer, Go like the wind!

Is there not 1 more who will mush or ride ?

BTW when does registration close and how old must the rider be ? The link (http://www.alton.nh.gov/calendardetail.asp?ID=2685) doesn't say anything re: these.

I can find my way to Alton if you still need one more person to embarass themselves mightily in the name of the Forum. I'm not the largest gal, but I haul cases of booze around at work and have mighty guns to show for it:laugh:

That will be the day after my 45th birthday. What better way to celebrate middle age than acting like a goof??:D

Thanks for the offer but I couldn't come up with another musher & rider. Alas it would seem the WFF is destined to see less action than the Spruce Goose. Perhaps we could find the appropriate rock formation in the Lake and park it there, like the "house" on Becky's Garden. All manner of lake lore will spring up to explain how it got there. Eventually as wind and wave beat it down, the orginal WFF will be replaced by a king sized Craftmatic adjustable Mcbed.

From the Odd but True Dept : Google Beckys Garden, NH and you'll find this link (http://www.lat-long.com/ShowDetail-770-New_Hampshire-Beckys_Garden.html) giving it's lat and long. The description .... it's a bar in Belknap County, New Hampshire. I wonder what they serve there ... water, granite, sandwiches ????

Even if we can't get the Forum Flyer on the ice, perhaps a group of forum members who will be at the Winter Carnival would want to meet for dinner/lunch/drinks?? instead on Sunday after the bed race. Any interest?

Sound like we need to "plant a flag" to indicate a meeting place. Perhaps a Winni Thong on a pole ....

MnM you crack me up!that will work as long as you are not wearing it.
I haven't said anything about the bed race because I don't know what my plans are for that weekend but if we can get enough interest in the bed race I guess I could climb back into my crib as the rider or if we can get someone smaller to ride I could mush.
Also if we can make this happen I can transport the Forum Flier
After everybody's hard work on the flier it would be a shame not to use it.

If y'all want the bed... someone has to come to MA and pick up the spring as it is in my garage... painted a lovely red!!!! DRH has the rest of it. I am probably not going to be at the festival this year due to my continued sciatica issues and two new babies being born to my daughter next week.

Family over function!!!

Has anyone thought about crashing the bed race? Is that allowed? I know it would be a non-sanctioned entry, lol........... Seriously, though, I don't know if any exceptions are made to the deadline but it could be something someone could look into, to see if perhaps there aren't enough entries to make the race exciting and maybe one more entry would help............. I believe 2+2 offered at almost the last minute to be a musher -- is that offer still open?

I love the idea of getting together for lunch or something -- so far, the Carnival is on my calendar, I'll have to bring the 13-year-old who will be bored but oh well, stinks to be an adolescent, lol. Lunch works for me, and I'd love to meet you all!

IG, where in Mass are you? I'm practically on the border, drive a Highlander so I'm sure I could fit a crib spring in my car to take to the Lake............... and babies next week? Congratulations! Are these your first grandbabies? Very exciting for you, whether these are your first or twentieth! Best of luck to your daughter, I hope everything goes well with the birth and prayers that the babies are healthy and well!

IG. IG's right - at this late date the crib will not be available for this year's race. Mee-n-Mac tried to get the effort going early on, but couldn't get enough support.

As with ForumFest, these types of events require planning, coordination, volunteers and a leader to put everything together. Without all those elements in place, they're not going to succeed.

It seems there is growing interest among forum members to meet one another at the winter carnival. I'm thinking more and more that some type of flag or marker on a pole as suggested earlier by MAC might be a good idea. Anyone interested in meeting other members could congregate at the designated spot either before or after the bed race. Any suggestions????

OK, I have just e-mailed Shibley's to see if they are taking reservations for Sunday lunch. We are in luck, they had closed for the season and reopened on January 30, are open limited days/hours but will be open Sunday at 11:00 AM (and are taking Valentine's Day reservations for those who are interested). Hopefully I'll get a response tomorrow.......... if not there, how about the Chinese restaurant? At any rate........

I would suggest a 1:30 or 2:00 lunch time, and need a "guest list" so I can give them an idea of how many of us to expect.............. So I'll start the list. Please cut and past to add yourself to the list, just like the summer ForumFests.

Let's all meet at the bandstand, the side "facing" Shibleys -- if I had a pole with a thong I'd put it there but I don't so.......... any volunteers? If not, I'll just blow up a couple of balloons and tape them to my hood, lol.

Hope to hear from ya'll soon!

Guest list:

1. Waterbaby and Son (2)

As you sit in Shibley's look out the rear window onto the bay and you will see my bobhouse decorated in a "Red, White & Blue" theme for the contest. I will be having company and may not be able to come up to the restaurant but you are all welcomed to stop in and have some Hot cocoa.

"Mee" and I will be up sometime in the late AM. We're supposed to meet up with her cousin and family so in total (if they are willing) that would made 6 more. I know DRH and QL will be (sadly) unavailable and UTS is doing duty until at least noon. There are activites running from 11 AM on. Personally I think "Mee" is pining for a ride in a heli. I don't have a Winni thong but I do think I can come up with something recognizable. Anyway I think a meet at the bandstand is a good idea but I'm thinking around 11 AM for those who will be there then, with lunch around 1 PM ??
