Ski Jumps?

I was just wondering if anybody knows about any laws about ski jumps on the lake. I was thinking about building one that would float in the water. I would only put it in and just anchor it for a couple of hours durning the day and then take it back out when I was not using it. I would think if it was atleast 150 feet from shore it might be ok. So if anyone knows about the laws regarding this it would be a big help.

At best I think there's a regulation prohibiting you from doing such a thing w/o prior approval (same as setting up ski course/pylons). I'm sure Skip will find the appropriate RSA but if not, there's an NH website that lists them. I just don't have the URL handy. I'm also sure it would have to be a very temporary thing, up in the AM and down before dusk. Perhaps if you disguished it as a raft .... :D

There was recently a discussion about this on www.malibuboatowners.com (http://www.malibuboatowners.com). A few people in the sport said if you own the ramp you are then liable for its use even if its without your permission. Therefore you will now only see them on very small private lakes and ponds. It's too bad, I would love to try one out some day as well. Good Luck.

Don't get too excited about the title, this is only a reply. Ba doooom Ching. :laugh:

I heard (it) through the grapevine that all you had to do was obtain a 'water event permit' from the NH Marine Patrol and fill it out accordingly. I went as far as calling MP to resolve my curiosity. They informed me of said permit and told me it took 2-3 weeks to process (typical turn-around time for NH government work.)

Best of luck, let me know how the jump comes out. I would love to try it sometime too maybe... :cool:

I recall seeing one in Back Bay a couple of years ago.

Yes, there is one in backbay. You have to belong to the Abenaki Ski club to use it. The clearance getting in to backbay is very minimal.

I saw what appeared to be a small ski jump in Roberts Cove next to the small island before the marina there. Maybe you should check it out and see what the owner did to build it, permit etc.
